its crazy because they arent even playing an insurgency, asymetric warfare battle, but they simply can overwhelm quickly trained and equipped ukies on a thousand kilometer front with artillery, tanks, aircraft, navies and everything being part of the game.

I can definitely see a bunch of Cold war era policy makers throughout the west seeing this as THE golden opportunity to cripple the former ground of the soviet union and salt its most fertile grounds. All just so that old threat doesn't reemerge again to threaten them the way the Soviets could.
Ironically though, I bet thats also the same reason why Putin wants to continue fighting this because he knows he is fighting against that cold war guard trying to destroy the likes of him (soviet old guard).
