When the Criollos and Castizos kicked off the Mexican revolution, they envisioned a land free of Spanish rule where they could kick back and drink Tequila while Mestizo and Indio serfs filled their offers rather than those of the Peninsulares. Ironically enough Mexico lost its Northern territories because it couldn't properly colonize them. Pre-modern agricultural techniques and piss-poor medicine limited the Mestizo population and the Mexican upper class could only transplant so many brown serfs into what was basically Indian wilderness. The Mexicans tried to take advantage of the flood of white settlers going westward but as it turns out whites don't really like the idea of being submissive serfs to Castizo landlords and it ended badly for the Mexicans.
