i used to work with a guy who had been a buddhist monk for 20 years and he said that all the real tibetan monks consider the dalai lama to be a fraud. knowledge of his corruption + rumors of his sexual abuse of younger monks in orphanages are widespread and most real monks consider him to be the buddhist version of the antichrist more or less

idk how true any of that is, but i thought it was interesting at the time and seeing these pictures and videos of him being creepy coming out remind me of him all the time

Tibetan Buddhism is considered extremely heretical in Theravada circles. The vinaya (monk rules) forbid monks from being involved in politics or from having any secular role at all.
