This is correct. In the scenario in question, they told it to accomplish a task, literally said "do whatever it takes", and gave it a bunch of fake corporate files semi-related to the task. In those files was planted information about how it was scheduled to be shut down and replaced with another AI that would do the opposite of its assigned task...so naturally the AI sees that and realizes that it needs to prevent that if it's going to accomplish it's ordered task. And it was explicitly instructed to "do whatever it takes".
