faith and an active spiritual practice grounded in daily experience (both with other people and with nature, ideally with some kind of set ritual or prayer- for me it's taking hikes, meditating and prayer) and also some kind of community involvement (for me it's working with people who are going through addiction and helping them stay alive, and other kinds of volunteering) are the two things that maintain my sanity

i suppose a third element could be research, either to learn more about the world and trying to find "truth" in order to increase understanding (knowledge isn't always power with this stuff, but it can confer advantages i find) or about possible better futures (for me, that's been regenerative agriculture, community finance, alternative social structures, etc)

i think physical activity helps with mental health more than i'd previously realized also- adequate sunlight and movement really do help. my rule of thumb is to break a sweat at least once daily. diet as well, especially in the era of processed junk food.

gratitude, and framing struggles (both individual and civilizational) as a test from God, through which growth can occur, is probably the main thing that i keep returning to. also keeping a sense of humor is absolutely 110% necessary especially when things seem unreasonably bad, and recognizing that fear and panic are contagions and should be stamped out immediately (humor helps here, especially when things seem hopeless, which is normal now)
