Well, they do work better in areas where the climate stays warm all year round, and they must be built facing the sun. In cold climates I think it takes at least 2 years to find the average/median temperature, and in climates with high humidity they have to be well insulated or they will deal with humidity going through which could lead to mold.
It has pros and cons, but it is completely off-the-grid and durable. So I think is an good option to consider, not for everyone though.
