After 1990 all Slavic countries were almost equally poor due to decades of communism (latin Poland was actually doing economically worse than cyrilic Russia or Ukraine). Within a generation difference is very apparent and it's only getting bigger.

The Latin alphabet was the result of a natural human process, arising from a common people and refined by generations.
Cyrillic was artificially created by a single man from a perverted mix of Latin and Greek to make the uneducated read in their native barbarian tongue.
Native scripts created by a people reflect the values of that people on an organic oral level, which could not hope to be fully replicated in it's nuance by any single individual.
