I think people look at how much time passed between being conquered and the Reconquista occurred for intermixing between the moors & original iberians, and they subsequently make the distinction that spaniards aren't white due to how much MENA blood was/is potentially still there.

Whether it's true or not, I'm unsure of the genetic statistics ala 23&ME, etc.

I'm physically white on every metric down, but I'm spanish & irish by genetics.
