I think Spaniards who like Italians are deeply mistaken. They think the Italians like them but they couldn't be more wrong.
North Italians view them with contempt the same way French do, because north Italians are delusional larpers who believe to be central Europeans celto-germanics when they are in fact more divergent from those they claim to be than Iberians are. They are essentially Terroni that are 20% germanics due to being raped by them.
Southern Italians aren't much better. They have a third world tier resentment toward Spain and believe that all their shortcoming are to be blamed on a Spanish rule that ended more than 300 years ago.
And no, modern Italians aren't Romans, they are essentially the descendants of Slaves from the eastern Mediterranean (which unfortunately, non Basques Spaniards partially descend from too though to a far lesser degree). As it happens, ancient Romans have far more in common with modern Iberians than they do with modern Italians genetically.
I know that some Spaniards are aware that shitalians monkeys are not their friends but many are still delusional about this whole "med brotherhood" nonsense.
