>>509848147 (OP)They are aimless because they have nothing to aim for. Entry level jobs cannot afford rent and basic necessities, much less allow you to save up for anything like starting a family or owning a home. Even non-entry jobs have shit pay, my sister is a manager for a retail store and only makes 17.50 an hour. Which, in our area, is just enough for her to cover monthly bills and car payments and such with a very small amount left over. She lives with me an I don't charge her a dime for rent. It would be completely impossible for her to live in her own place, or even in a shared apartment where rent was split, on a manager's salary.
Entertainment and frivilous bullshit is cheap and accessible. But vital necessities like shelter, transportation, and healthcare are wildly expensive and getting more expensive all the time. So of course people are retreating into online spaces and giving up on the real world, success in the real world requires a combination of luck and opportunity that means that if you have to ASK how to get there its probably already not an option for you. And with the rise of AI, more and more of those jobs that DO pay a living wage are slated to be destroyed in the next decade, leaving even more people competing for shit jobs that pay nothing.
This is all self inflicted harm. The world doesn't have to be like this. This is not an endorsement of nihilism. Its a recognition that the system has been made to be dysfunctional, and we as a people cannot thrive until it has been fixed.
