We had our army stolen by the British to fight Germany and Italy, then Japan landed on our soil in WA, the ADF didn't even know. The Japanese figured they didn't even want the land and left voluntarily without anyone even knowing until records were recovered after the war. Not much really. We sent troops to North Africa to help in the fight against Rommel which also extended to broader operations in the Mediterranean. We also fought across the Pacific. Mostly Australia was just a staging ground for America to consolidate its forces and then launch offensives from, much like Great Britain was. Ultimately, Australia and New Zealand's inpact on the outcome of the war was very minimal although the propaganda that emerges every Anzac Day would have you think that Anzac troops were super soldiers and the bestest ever to walk the face of the planet.

Australian and US troops fought side-by-side against the Japanese on the Kokoda Track, which is some of the most rugged terrain on the planet. US assistance in pushing Japan back is the reason we have the ANZUS treaty which has lasted up until 2025, but perhaps won't survive Donald part 2.

Oz has been our most consistent ally for a long time.
Until Midway buck broke the IJN, it was pretty dicey, and a lot of effort was spent keeping Australia in the fight.
You could say they were the key theater in the Pacific for the first 6-8 months of the war there. until the momentum shifted with the Solomons campaign.

And while we're on the subject, Australia was one of the single largest suppliers of the British during the blitz. They were starving and we sent them out food.

But straight after ww2, instead of thanking us the British abandoned the commonwealth and joined the EU, NATO, putting tarrifs on Australian goods, basically choosing polish food and polish workers over Australian goods and Australian/British citizens. That was NATO's long term plan against Russia, buy Poland.
But it's not so often discussed how that meant cutting off the commonwealth counties who just lost hundreds of thousands of troops protecting Europe.

And when we look at aukus in particular, our peacekeeping deployments today, a strong feature of this is getting fucked by the Americans and British after dying for them.
