Why don't younger people simply avoid student debt and take low-level jobs for a few years until promotions increase their wages, and they can start a family in financial comfort?

Houses in the west coast cost an arm and a leg. This can only work in like Kentucky or Mississippi.

Even Tennesse and Montana are flooded with retired cops from California taking their democratic pensions and money from the house they sold and buying/pricing out locals there.

That's why, that same house is 250k in Redding or Bakersfield California. Houses in Spokane, WA go for 350k easily. And these are far away from major metros areas.

I dropped out of high school, took a job at a dollar store, got a job answering phones for $8/hr at some IT place and now make 165(200TC) as a Sr SWE at a large tech firm.

Low wage entry jobs can be a real blessing in disguise if you treat it right and see yourself really taking it seriously.

I don’t make the most money ever now but it’s super fun work with really smart people. Could have made more w/ school but I’m very happy either way
