The reason atheists were so loud in 2006 was because those were the Bush years when cuckservative Christians were the dominant cultural force in America. People latched onto atheism to rebel against that culture. That culture got swept away and replaced with globohomo liberalism after Obama got elected, so the atheists stopped caring about their cultural crusade. The fedora memes and the ridicule also got a lot of them to self-reflect and realize that they were being cringe. That's not even touching on how atheism+ tore apart the organized community that existed around atheism. The chud vs. feminist dichotomy of the 2010s caused the atheist community to lose cohesion.

To add to this... around 2015, a lot of the people who used to make content about atheism and religion pivoted to talking about other political issues like feminism. By that time, pretty much all of the debates and arguments had been played out a million times, and people stopped being interested in those videos since they were all just rehashes of previous content. Now younger people don't really care about Christianity like they did before. Not necessarily because they're more religious, but because they didn't grow up in a religious culture, so they don't rebel against religion like young adults in 2006 did. There isn't a new generation of passionate atheists to keep the community going. And that's fine. Nobody cares except for a few people who live for that "atheist community" culture like Aronra and Matt Dillacunty.

Atheists don’t have to call themselves atheists anymore. Nobody expects people to be religious anymore.
