Their architecture was and is basically obsessed with the Hagia Sophia of Eastern Rome and everything they did was to surpass it. They eventually built larger and more complex cupolas, after centuries of trial and error. Taj Mahal is a late product of that knowhow.

Domes are not really an Indian style, you can tell it's more drawn from things like the Taj Mahal and British colonialism. If you didn't have that front wall with the carvings, almost like a coat of paint to say "this is Indian", you could see something like this in Spain, most of it is a western design.

There is beauty in simplicity. While i appreciate the work and detail in the hindu temple, from afar, it looks like picrel.
