What have you read? I recommend Book of the Magus, Initiation, Douay-Rheims Bible, Book of Enoch, Dead Sea Scrolls, The Emerald Tablets, and Dwight Whitley's translations of the Vedas. With the Book of the Magus - be careful. Some of the contributors, including the author, really hated dogmatic organized religion (that left little room for questions)

Though I also hold a few non-spiritual texts up high too, Meditations and Anabasis grow the soul in good ways.

I haven't delved into occult more than my personal pondering I had to do to deal with losses in my family, but I get the inner feeling most religion/philosophies say the same thing in a different way. Also, my understanding is that religion is a efficient but less powerful way for the individual to harness his spiritiuallity in the service of his community. It's like a easy to pick method, less powerful than if you delve into it yourself.
