The power system is protecting itself from a shift in power interests. Sometimes glitches like this happen in democracies where the voters make too many wrong choices (usually as a reaction to being alienated from system politics). Just because the voters make a choice doesn’t mean those in power will just stop being in power, they will fight back. The courts are the first line of defense and as long as there isn’t serious social upheaval the courts generally handle it. If the voters want to exert their will they know what they need to do (they won’t do it).
