My parents were shitty.
I left home as soon as I could, and I haven't talked to my mother in over 15 years. I genuinely do not know if my father is alive or dead.
I set out to make something of myself despite how shitty they were. I'm not rich, but I own a home and pay the bills. I found a woman who I get along with well enough most of the time and married her.

Stop blaming mommy and daddy for you failing. You can be angry at them, you can rant about them for an hour a week to a therapist. But when you're old enough to be a grandfather and still blaming everything on them, that's on you.

I think a lot of people like your parents got married and had kid's who probably shouldn't have due social pressure. My father in particular clearly didn't want to raise children but did it anyway because he felt obligated. Since the social contract in western countries is worth less than toilet paper these days more people don't feel any pressure to make that sacrifice. And the burden of taking on a woman and children is absolutely a sacrifice for any man with options, which is something western society has forgotten to it's peril. That's why dowries used to exist.
