China's military has no real experience at any level. None of its soldiers have ever fought in any kind of war, none of its top brass have ever commanded during a war. Even the most rudimentary battlefield operation is outside China's practical experience, let alone something as massive and complicated as an amphibious assault over 50 miles of ocean against a very large island. Even if you go all the way back to when China last had active soldiers with fighting experience their track record wasn't good. Chinese doctrine was unimaginative and typically resulted in heavy casualties for the Chinese, and outcomes were generally mixed, seldom ever achieving unequivocal success.

So what this means is China's military efficacy is a total mystery, even to themselves. Undoubtedly China has been training and preparing their military to the best of their ability, but I simply have doubts about their methods due to the total lack of real experience to draw on, having to rely on advisors and war games. But the primary training partner and subject of study for China has been the Soviet Union, and later Russian Federation. A lot of China's assumptions about its combat readiness are based on what it has learned from Russia over the last 50 years, and the Soviet technology it has copied and iterated on. China has very good reason to be worried about the foundational basis of its military capability right now given what it sees in Ukraine, a nation without Taiwan's natural defenses or direct US military presence safeguarding it.

To wit: China would have to be extraordinarily more stupid than they have thus far demonstrated themselves to be to launch any kind of attack on Taiwan. And when they do, I doubt it will be an amphibious assault. Unless the Chinese general staff is utterly, completely deluded and detached from reality, they will not even suggest such a thing even as a joke out of fear that somebody would actually take it seriously.
