What's actually happening is asian culture is coming west. Ultra competitive do or die mentality. The top 30% are gunning like hell. The middle 50% are plodding along, getting nowhere in a more competitive society. The bottom 20% (you) are completely priced out and unable to compete in the society that has outgrown you tremendously, whereas you may have had a fighting chance 15 years ago.

NEETs are the next step of the awakening evolution. Not all of course, but I'd say many. People who chase materialism and other irrelevant might be materialistic wealthy, but they're often spiritually poor/bankrupt. Since this society only places value on those with wealth as a measure of success, they do themselves a disservice in ignoring the wealth that can't be bought.

I think NEETs in general are vastly superior to the consumerist norms of society.
