I was interested in it after visiting a radio museum here in the UK (Bletchley Park if interested) but once I learned they have to be registered and licensed by the government I stopped being interested immediately, nodded and smiled, gave up on it entirely. It is very cool but not when you add the fact the government will know your location immediately and demand your assistance in the event of a war plus no fun allowed business when you get your radio set.

KD2VMC here. I got the license in the early Covid time in case society collapsed. Now I never use it. The internet is better in every way than communicating by over the air radio.

I am going to get a 10 meter radio and put it in my car and have the baddest CB setup on the highway, though. But anyone else could just get the 11 meter CB radio and communicate in the same band.

It requires some tech skill, and it has no obvious benefits. That could be why it's declining.
