If you own a house you don't need to pay rent so the minimum pension should cover basic expenses. There might also be property tax deferral options. Lot of boomers live like that here on $2k-$3.5k monthly income.

I always laugh when boomers here say they opted out of “gold plated” pension schemes which can often pay your entire peak salary from when you were working in retirement.
