Why don't gulf countries like uae or Saudi Arabia, Asian countries like Japan and china, take in refugees despite being rich? Are asylum laws only applicable to western countries?

Because the de facto purpose of asylum laws as they're employed in the west is to enable a source of mass immigration that politicians can't be held electorally accountable for, because "they're forced to take them in by humanitarian law". In reality 95% of these people are economic migrants

Turkey and Lebanon took a lot of refugees. Probably Jordan still have some too (from recent-ish ones), or may be they are still dealing with influx which they had several decades ago.

Even Iran housed a lot of afghan refugees. Expulsion of afghans are just recent thing. As there grew suspect that there are a lot of spies for Israel among them.

In that aspect, some muslim countries indeed have been doing decent humanitarian job.

If they did they would move to one of the many majority black countries. But they don't.

I'm a russian here on asylum. I sat in detention for 3 months and got to see the latinos first hand. Suffice to say, not a single one i met deserved asylum or had an actual case. Since I know english, I did get to read some of their cases. One guy who had to wear a diaper because he got claimed he got raped by cartel for not joining, was already in USA before, got a 15 year old girl pregnant and then ran when her mom reported him. He had a warrant and despite being the detention center, was instead deported back to mexico instead of being arrested. Not sure if that was better or worse in the end.
