Is there some odd concerted effort by elites to stop people from eating fast food? Or is this a canary in the coal mine for Weimar 2.0?

canary in the gold mine 100%
or at the very least, a clear sign that the food economy is shifting drastically.
I do find it funny how alot of mega businesses are starting to see extreme shrinkage in profits. maybe dont squeeze 90% of the country for every drop they're worth if you want them to continue to consoom.

very true, sadly.
honestly more people need to just stop eating slop and more home cooking.
well, theres alot of damn things people need to do they're not... only thing that give me even a modicum of hope is the 'youth' left and right alike show heavy signs of simply being put up with all the shit. but they seem to already be too disheartened to do anything and seem at best to just hope they can squeeze out enough time to make a move once all the boomers die off.
probably wont end well for them there.

Basically, profit margins for fast food for really bad recently, mostly due to inflation and the price of gas skyrocketing. Has hits fast food in particular hard because their supply chain is colossal just by volume.
This pushes them into an awkward price range where they don't really pass as "affordable" anymore, even if relatively speaking they're still the cheap option. People who want cheap food just stop going out.

Their solution was to try and rebrand their fast food as a soft-luxury. Basically abandoning their traditional poorfag market and instead try to bait in the foodies who are still out spending money on this shit economy.

It's failed horribly by the way, to the extent that McDonald's might not survive as a brand if it can't course correct. All of the fast food places that tried this same experiment lost a lot of money over it. But the heart of the problem is that the price of food has been high globally since Russia invaded and torched one of the largest food exporters in the world, and the price of gas has been fluctuating in extremes the whole time that shits been going on in the middle east. These two economic realities make it very hard for food service to be profitable right now.

Ill go ahead and let you in on some secrets. As a business owner in Food. I took the most popular 10 items based on google and sell them. Chicken, Fries, Ramen, etc. Its all basic bitch shit i can cook and throw under lamp

The problem is places like McDonalds, Burger king have turned into literally everything they came from.

Simplicity. Service. Taste.

Dave Thomas said people only remember 3 things. The first and last bite of their hamburger and the price.

These places have turned too ridiculous menu offering. Wraps, Gourmet burgers, chicken fingers, fish. Its all bullshit .You look at what made these places great it was simplicity. Burger, Milkshake, fries. Literally the operations are too complex. The wait too long. The ingredients to expense.

Only one fast food place is still at their roots. In and Out. And guess what? Their prices and service are the best.

Simplicity is the key. Fast food will die if it does not return
