Its actually one of the few "correct" parts of the Jewish "religion". IIRC the thing about the box was really just something about putting a book on a table. Hebrew has no vowels or even spaces between words, or standard spellings and other problems, so mistranslation are almost normal.

It is a punishment, in a way, as God does not allow them on the Temple Mount as they do not submit to His prophets.

If they submitted to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) they would have domain of the Temple Mount as Muslims do.
