And they are so young and unaware of things, they take it at face value and go along with it. They then flounder along for decade or more suffering effects of false beliefs. I make a post, someone with an account on another website can comment on that post. They can send me DMs, add me as a friend, whatever. Now say the EU sends me a threat letter that I need to comply with their regulations or I'm toast. I tell my users the site is shutting down, and they all migrate to alternatives, taking their friends lists from other websites with them. The government now has to repeat the cycle with other websites. Meanwhile, for every one you take down, 5 more are popping up because bureaucracies are slow and inefficient.

Also, because each one of these websites is small and obscure, they will undoubtedly easily circumvent parental controls, which rely on blacklisting known bad domains.

Yes but the process can be made smoother with digital IDs. If I make an account on some website and create a new junk email address to confirm the registration just for that site, and then post something illegal, the cops will have to do at least some work figuring out who I am. Sure, the site saves my IP address and probably a device fingerprint, but then the cops will have to call up the ISP to figure out who was using the address at the time, and there's always a chance it was a public wifi somewhere and it's all very complicated. They'll eventually get me but it takes time and resources. It'll be much easier when all sites are forced to use digital ID and everything you say on the internet is directly tied to it.
