Etihad Airways has instructed cockpit crews to exercise extreme caution when operating the switches on its Boeing 787s, as well as when performing any actions near them. They are also advised to avoid placing objects on the center console that could trigger unintentional movements. Any abnormalities should be reported immediately. The instruction was sent to flight crew on July 12, according to reports by the Economic Times, among others. The airline also instructed its maintenance teams to inspect the fuel switch locking system. A 2018 FAA notice had pointed to possible defects. At the time, the US agency recommended checking the locking function on various Boeing models. However, the measure was not mandatory. Therefore, Air India also failed to implement the inspection, even though the plane involved in the accident was among those to be inspected.
