Insurance companies are only a relatively small part of the problem, but yes, these prices are inflated through the fact that there are government incentives to arrange healthcare insurance through work, with government essentially paying a significant portion of everyone's premiums, which inflates prices.
Then, EMTALA act mandates any healthcare facility to accept any patient regardless of ability to pay.
This is why any emergency room is full of niggers and illegal spics.
Last time I checked something like 60% of the emergency room visit bills aren't paid which is a direct result of EMTALA.
Also, one can always check what a relatively free market would require for a medical procedure as there are facilities pretty much everywhere in the US who offer walk-in upfront price for procedures and they are several times lower than what you would be charged with as if you were on insurance.
I've been to some of these facilities and shopping around goes a long way to reduce such costs.
