That's the problem with adrenaline-charged spree killings. When you decide to enact one, you're in a depressed state; you feel the world has wronged you, and you just want to an hero but not without punishing the people you perceive as the wrong do'ers first. So, you go out, kill a bunch of them, but it's so exciting and you feel alive for the first time in years. You can't do it, you can't an hero, because simply existing in the immediate aftermath feels more exhilarating than anything you've ever experienced.
Your brain, full of feel-good chemicals at this point, is lying to you, telling you you that somehow it's going to be okay, and you're so high with your brain flooded with endorphins that you actually believe it. Must have been one hell of shitty come down for him.
