Not only did he fail in his goal to suppress Islam, he caused the rights of his countrymen to be stripped.

Yeah, he said on the way to the second mosque that "there was time for the fuel". Also the stream got cut off by the time he got the second mosque. He could've fixed that by doing a multi-stream (where it's the same video going to many different platforms), not only reaching more people but also it would take longer for them all to be reported and taken down.

Did he also have a gun jam the second mosque or something? Or was the fact there was no footage for it used for the media to be able to spin it and try to make that part look like a failure? I remember reading some nonsense that a Muslim threw something at him and he ran away, but I'm not sure if that's really true. I think at the time they were actually pretty concerned about copycats. Not just on mosques but maybe synagogues.

There's also the idea that he was actually Mossad/former IDF that did it try to stir up something between the local Kiwis and the Muslims (so the natives would be more sympathetic to Israel). But I don't know, I haven't looked into it too deeply. There are definitely some weird things like the earthquake in Christchurch revealing Mossad agents in the police department. That Brenton did go to Ukraine (and meet Azov) as well as Israel. People have speculated that he's also not 28 but closer to 40 in the video (based on his eyes).

That's the problem with adrenaline-charged spree killings. When you decide to enact one, you're in a depressed state; you feel the world has wronged you, and you just want to an hero but not without punishing the people you perceive as the wrong do'ers first. So, you go out, kill a bunch of them, but it's so exciting and you feel alive for the first time in years. You can't do it, you can't an hero, because simply existing in the immediate aftermath feels more exhilarating than anything you've ever experienced.

Your brain, full of feel-good chemicals at this point, is lying to you, telling you you that somehow it's going to be okay, and you're so high with your brain flooded with endorphins that you actually believe it. Must have been one hell of shitty come down for him.
