People that work in jails I’ve been to have all been paid by the government, unironically.

Did 2 years in a low security and there was nothing too much to note other than its boring as shit. Its not like the movies its just staring at a cold wall for years other than a few gardening magazines you'll maybe get if you behave well.

Alright, I’ll tell you. Here’s a brief itinerary of a normal day for me when I was at San Quentin.
5:00 am - wake up

You have to procure a sharp object immediately and stab one of the inmates who isn't a high ranking member of a gang. If you can get ome or both their eyes out you will get mad respect. Don't take favors off anyone and never trust anyone. If someone disrespects you, even something minor that can be percieved as diarespect: go into berserker mode and shank them with all your might. Yeah they had gym clothes for gym time, shorts were exactly like high school shorts, kinda short and had those two layers with little holes on the outer layer, and we played volleyball in a rather spartan gym, having a blast honestly, and there were the logos to the various military branches painted on the wall while we played.

The sad thing is there is far more community in jail (at least the one I experienced) than in the outside world. You get to know the people and get to hang out all day long.

I don't try to end up back there but I know if I ever do, it'll be OK.

Even keeping it very very vague can dox me. Boiled down to wrong place wrong time and was at a time when Russia and Australia were having political tensions. The upside of this was my conditions were way better than if I was sent to a legit prison. This was far closer to a detention type facility. It still sucked.

The cold and lack of sunlight were the worst part. The food was ok, I’ll never eat cabbage again but. One the detainees had access to pretty much anything he wanted so he would often hook us up with food from a supermarket, bread, cheese, cold cut meats etc. He also would have vodka but I was too scared to ever drink.

I worked 6 months as a prison guard. Grubby depressing and boring. The guards were all miserable scum and the prisoners often maid lame attempts to escape a day before their release after a 2 year sentence so they could be arrested and resentenced to another 2 years because a warm dry bed and 3 squares a day and standing around smoking cigs and drinking free coffee was preferable to living on the cold wet streets.
