Good question. I’d prefer at least a passing nod to our histories, like a heraldic bull, eagle, or Christian cross. A bit more edgy would be the sonnenrad, north star or a passing nod to rome or the holy roman empire (France would object though)

No, but I think it would be difficult to design a single image that represents 44 different countries (not to mention the distinct races without their own country like Welsh, Scottish, Basque, Bavarians etc.). Best thing I can think of would be some kind of Roman motif but it would probably seem kind of gay and LARPy at this point.
