A young lady has opened a food truck near my neighborhood. The first time I went there I couldn't see a menu anywhere on the outside of the food truck and while I was looking the window opened up.

Two young ladies were just looking at me while I was looking for the menu. I said "This is my first time here. Where is the menu?". They continue to stare at me and they haven't said a word. I say "Do. You. Have. A. Menu.?". One of them says "It's on Instagram" and just looks at me. I tell them "I don't have my phone with me. Do you have a physical menu that I can look at?. Blank stares from both of them and I ask again "Do you not have a physical menu that I can look at?".

One of them hands me a dirty piece of paper that is a menu printed on a piece of paper. As soon as she hands me the menu she immediately says "What would you like to order?" (The first words they spoke to me in this situation). I stare at her while I'm still grabbing the menu from her hand and I say "You've been here the entire time I've been at your food truck and you know I have been trying to find the menu because I told you this is my first time here. Do you think I know what you serve without looking at the menu first?". She looks at me and says "Like you do or don't want to order food?". "I was going to order food but after this crazy social interaction I'm just going to go home and make myself something to eat".

It was literally one of the dumbest experiences of my life and these two 20 something year old women thought that is how they are supposed to interact with their customers. The crazy part is there food truck is still in business.

I actually encountered someone like this once, at Subway. The store had a tip jar in violation of corporate policy (used to work at Subway) and the guy was doing tricks with the sandwich ingredients. So I sent an email about this to Subway's corporate office. He did not get fired, but when I was in a week later, the tip jar was gone and the service returned to being dignified.

I went to McDonald's yesterday and got a Filet-O-Fish combo and a Bacon Clubhouse Burger. I was eating it in my vehicle in the parking lot and listening to an audio book when I glanced up and saw the McDonald's worker I ordered from was outside having a cigarette.

She waved at me and I nodded and had to wait 7 minutes before she went back inside and I could eat in comfort again. I don't think that employees should be bothering or even trying to socialize with customers outside of the McDonald's restaurant or drive through, but that is another story.

I went to McDonald's for dinner last night and got a Big Mac combo and a 10 piece Chicken McNuggets with barbecue dipping sauce. As I was driving to the second window the same girl was still working. She was acting somewhat obsequious and attempting small talk when she asked, 'why don't you come eat inside instead of in the parking lot'.

That really bothered me for many reasons. First of all, I don't want my routine or actions to be tracked by a fast food employee. Secondly, she should not try to tell me how I should live my life. I do not want to eat inside because I find it less comfortable and would much rather be inside my vehicle listening to an audiobook and enjoying myself and my privacy.

Overall, I think it was very unprofessional to bring this up. I should have a clean slate with each drive through visit, not have to get the third degree because I committed some sort of faux pas. Which I don't think I did, because I often see people eating in fast food parking lots. How does she know I am not busy going to work or somewhere in a rush?

I hate when restaurants have the bar code and want you to scan it to see a menu. How hard is it to do the menu on word/powerpoint/whatever and then go to staples, print one copy out for 73 cents and then laminate it and put it up on your food truck? My wife and I have many of these experiences which are good for a lot of laughs. Recently, I went into a gas station and purchased a soda. Giving the clerk a $20, I asked for her to put "the balance" on pump 7. She looked at me quizzically and then asked: you mean you want the rest of it on 7? I just smiled and said yes as I left. Their inability to do the simplest things is frightening.

I also am quite aggrieved by their practice when giving change. They seem to have a phobia of even making the slightest contact with your hand. They will lay the money out and then place the change on top of it, often spilling it in the process, to avoid the chance of touching you when placing the change into your palm. If it is a cleanliness thing, well you need to find a new job because money is one of the dirtiest things imaginable. They all do it, so much so, that it seems to be that they are trained this way.
