I picked BTC because i cba setting up a crypto account and go through the long process getting approval from the bank, authorizing international payments and everything else. By answering #3 i figured the process would either be completed automatically or it'd push me to finally get it done. That's the most important part to me.

And this is where taxes come in. Because higher “value” means higher taxes even marginally. This one top of exchange fees puts the two options exceedingly close in value. And that the BTC is NOT taxed until AFTER being sold. So do you think taxes and currency exchange fees in total in the US are LESS than 13%?

No? Then you end up with fewer BTC by taking the fiat.

Yes it does, but less than marginal income tax for 1.364 million (which is the GBP equivalent) and the tax rate is WAYYYY lower too as it’s top tier is 20% as opposed to the 37% marginal tax rate above 750k. You’re looking at paying roughly 500k in taxes for the GBP and you’d be able to liquidate the crypto and end up with a bigger pile of dollars.

Depends on the local laws but yes, the effective BTC to standard fiat price is way lower than the inverse of the fiat to BTC. You still see newfags amazed they end up liquidating 35% less than they expected on crypto.

Browns and shills sperg about it every day. It's a great business investment, weird they're sharing that knowledge with others, instead of reinvesting and getting richer.

I'll spell it out for you since apparently you need to be slow walked through these things.
Money, by definition, is a medium of exchange.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/money

If you have to sell it in order to use it, it is not a medium of exchange. Hence it is not money.
Pointing out that Not-A is not A is not being pedantic.
BTC has value. And you can sell it for a lot of money. And it is an appreciating asset that will be worth more money in the future. But that in itself does not make it money.
That's not being pedantic. That's meaning of words.

I do think it's a fad.
But, for the time being, it is gaining value. I think it's a massive bubble that will pop. But that doesn't mean it's not appreciating in value at the moment.
At any rate, I only said it to throw the other poster a bone. The point is it's not money.

You can sell an asset for money. But that does not make the asset itself money.

There's that, plus there's the fact that it's so limited in the number of transactions that can be carried out at a given time that using it as currency on any reasonable scale would be unmanageable.
Future cryptos might be able to serve that end someday. But BTC is more of a prototype.

I notice that you ignored the first definition there in favor of a looser, more colloquial meaning.
First definitions tend to be the most precise. Work in finance for a bit and throw "money" around the way you use it.
No one will take you seriously.

If you want to operate in the BTC economy and avoid taxes, and think you won't get caught, the BTC might make sense.

I just saw multi million dollar apartments for sale in NYC and they said "Bitcoin accepted!" But those also have hefty monthly maintenance fees.

NYC is the money laundering capital of the world. If Mamdani gets in and cracks down on those evil capitalists, the USA will become poorer.

They're evil but they're useful.

Come to think of it, it's another reason Trump's move from inocme taxes to import taxes (tariffs) makes sense. A lot of income is hard to find these days. Why reward people who are able to trick the system and use bitcoin and have fancy tax lawyers?

Just guard the borders and tax physical things as they come in. That's immune to modern manipulations.
