Wut, how old are you? For starters, stores used to be open later etc. At least here it stuck and never went back. Not for everything but still. Really the grocery store is the big one.

It sucked in different ways but honestly as I don't think you can say the 70s-90s sucked as bad as now
No, now is worse, even if you want to say rose tinted glasses are involved

The 80's and 90's and early 00's did NOT suck even a fraction as much as they do now.

This shit is bad now. Everything about NOW. Everythingseriously sucks ass now.

Yes. This is actually Hell. God dumps all the evil, trash souls on this rock surrounded by endless darkness and dead planets.

It used to suck more, for a long time. But then it got better. Honestly it was pretty good for a while. But, over the past couple of decades, its started backsliding.
In terms of quality of life and entertainment and medical technology and lots of other things, we have gotten objectively just better. But socially, we have gotten worse. And I don't mean that in a "DURR SJWS RUINED EVERYTHING" way, I mean in the fact that people don't have fucking friends anymore. Community has disintegrated, people don't go out and hang out with their neighbors or friends or shit, they stay at home on the internet. They don't go to bars, they buy beer or have it delivered and sit in their living room and drink themselves to death in isolation. Convenience is killing us by divide and conquer, because going out and meeting people is hard and scary and staying home is easy.
Meanwhile, the common person doesn't even have the energy to do things after work anyway, because you have to work two jobs just to make rent, and you wouldn't be able to afford a kid anyway even if you did have the energy to go on dates. This is a direct result of the enshitification of the economy, which has since the 1970s performed an absolutely massive wealth transfer that has stolen money from your pockets and put them in the hands of an ever smaller, more concentrated financial elite that imagines wealth into being via speculation and trading imagined future debt as currency.
The good news is that the problems we have are fixable. But it cannot be fixed without fundamentally breaking down our current economy and putting back in all of the things that used to protect us against the rich, and bolting them in place so they can't wiggle them loose again.

Before the modern era people found more comfort in religion. Many aspects of life were ritualized in a way that gave them more subjective significance in different cultures. Today we look on their physically demanding lifestyles imbued with primitive religiosity with disdain, but they probably never experienced the kinds of apathy and mental resignation many do today. There's no way to know really except for the fact humanity was able to keep it's birthrates above replacement levels for hundreds of thousands of years despite the hardships of pre-civilizational life contrary to many modern countries. I don't even think we can understand their lives through our ideas of what "sucks" or what's "good" for us

it was comfy enough after we unlocked the agriculture tech tree, we didn't need all this free time, the industrial revolution was a mistake.
