Everyone I knew used to prank call them and post dog shit through the returns box, on top of never returning the games. I have no idea why.

>>510490788 (OP)Why do millennials romanticize rogers video/blockbuster? they were incredibly jewish over late fees.
>>510491080because you were a kid back then you retard. You are not a kid anymore. People your age have a wife and kids. You are the fuck up
calm down idiot, movies and pizza still exist
BB would still be relevant if they took the streaming route. Possibly still have the stores up to rent games. Maybe too late now.
>>510490788 (OP)For me it was Hollywood video, I went there a lot when I was a kid. They had a better selection than Blockbuster and you could rent the movies/video games longer.
>>510490788 (OP)I remember rushing to Blockbuster to get a copy of a new release only to find the shelves empty. Good times. I also liked when they would sell there rental copies at a discount price. Ended up leaving with 4 new movies for $20 everytime. That Blockbuster DVD case plastic was so thick and fogged looking.
>>510491149This unfortunately, I try to enjoy some 90s/early 2000s movies for nostalgia sake and I end up noticing just how far back the subversion goes
>>510490887Nah kids who grow up surrounded by instant access to movies 24/7 will never get the same kind of dopamine spike that kids got on movie night in the 90s. Constant distractions have fried people's dopamine receptors and made them more resistant to stimulation
>>510490788 (OP)They used to forgive my late DVD returns for almost a whole year because I’d tell them I was late because I forgot to rewind them and had to go back home, until this snot nosed punk one day said “it’s a dvd, you can’t rewind dvds” and basically all the workers who heard him started hating me.
>>510491208Dunno, it was dogshit back then and I was pirating anything I could.
>>510491325The dopamine from watching something is different from the dopamine you get from doing something. The kids still have a chance as long as they go outside once in a while and find something to entertain themselves with. Kids now don’t even break glass bottles anymore.

Although I can't help but feel nostalgic seeing that when I snap out of it I realize how pathetic it is that the things millennials look back most fondly on is cheap consumer slop that was poisoning our minds and bodies all along. Our ancestors looked back fondly on conquering entire continents, forming large families, settling unknown lands, tight knit homogeneous communities. While zoomers on their death bed will remember playing fortnite with their online friends whom they never met. IDK which is worse.
>>510491514Yeah, same reason I don't emulate games despite knowing how to have folders full of every rom ever made practically. Don't buy em either these days because everything is gay and jewish. But I still play my NES.
>>510490788 (OP)I loved just renting random movies and seeing what we got lol. Friday night pizza night. popcorn and movies. Surge soda. rented Sega genesis games. whew.
blockbuster put out of business small stores with better and more obscure VHS tapes and other fun stuff to rent at better prices and all around more fun and comfy
it was a soulless company, like amazon, netflix, or any other goyslop company that exists today
I wonder if in the 30's there were like old people saying
>"remember when people all road horses? Now it's all soulless cars! Riding a horse used to be an event, you feed it, put the straps on, get on top of it and go! You had to build a bond with it! You can't bond with a car! It's just fulfilling endless dopamine hits to get from point A to point B and C and D whenever!"
do millennials really have nostalgia over wasting their whole week working for shekelstein and then wasting the 2 days off watching goyslop?
>>510490788 (OP)He forgot friends, we all had friends back then.
>>510490788 (OP)I remember going to the video store with my girlfriend, finding a movie to watch together, then going back to her house to cuddle then fuck with the movie on. Good times.
>>510491488>when it was the red envelopechecked and I remember. I liked it then, and it became popular explicitly because of how outrageous Blockbuster's late fee based business model was. Funny how nobody is nostalgic about that, about their parents scrambling around trying to beat the clock on some ridiculous fee. Also nobody remembers that Blockbuster put all the local video rental places out of business. Did it to my local one.
>>510490887Hmm lets see whats on Netflix. Jew propaganda, jew propaganda, jew propaganda ........(100 flips later) ..... jew propaganda. ooh here's something, it just has a little jew propaganda in the background rather than slapping you in the face with it like a dead fish. I can watch that.

It's not good for the mental state of people to live endlessly further removed from natural interactions, like spending time with your gf or family in the blockbuster aisles, as sad and pointless as that sounds when you can tell your oed tv to pull something up in a search now or grub torrents all day alone in your room like a third worlder.

Yeah dude, we used to know we were SLAVES for FIVE DAYS A WEEK, but now we uh... don't? People never do anything on weekends except rent video games and eat pizza, and one of those things is GONE. physical gaming will always be superior
but you would have to re-educate the masses to make it be desired
people prefer to lose money
and physical is faster and more convenient too because the game comes loaded on the disc already and can be delivered same hour delivery
so no downloading and no paying for storage
physical gaming died because of a mass propaganda campaign that "digital" was the new wave

>>510492732No, retard. Way to miss the completely miss the point. It's because the world in general has gotten more atomized, people are raised to spend more time interacting with screens than real people and they are less connected to nature. The economy also isn't as good as it used to be, inflation has destroyed the wealth of the middle class and that factors into it as well. >>510490788 (OP)>>510490912>>510490887Oldfag here. I used to hate nostalgic fucks like myself, but the past five years has accelerated everything so fast. It's impossible not to look back with some kind of nostalgia now.
2001 was the first big changing. Everyone born after that year, but especially after 2008 is an NPC in some form or another compared to older generations. The very social fabric of our society has become completely unhinged.
If in the year 2000 a 15 year old girl said : "I take cute bikini pictures of myself and share these online publicly. Thousands of men can see it and like, comment and reply to my pics" - there would immediately be social services involved and it would be the biggest scandal ever heard of at 99% of schools . Nowadays this shit is just completely normal.
In 2010 selfies weren't even socially accepted. If you stood around too long in one spot endlessly taking pictures of yourself people would genuinely think you were a fucking weirdo. Nowadays? Almost considered weird if you DONT participate in narcissistic behavior on social media.
Dating before apps used to be 100 times better. a 5/10 guy would eventually always hook up with some 5/10 girl at a party somewhere. People still actually talked, attraction was formed. Everything is so fucking fake these days. Tinder was a nuclear bomb to the human race.
Dont get me started on the internet before Web 2.0. It also helped that it took time, effort and money to actually own and operate a PC back in the early days, so that weeded out a lot of retards. Most kids are technologically illiterate. They can type fast on their iPhones but have no clue about how any of the underlying technology worked. My father in his 80's had to explain to my 15 year old nephew how to install a VPN because he can't focus on anything for more than 5 seconds because of tiktok brain.
Now with AI everything is going to become increasingly more gay. We will create gay AI's that create even gayer AI's.
>>510490788 (OP)Mom-and-pop rental stores were better. I remember being about 10 years old, begging my mom for some money to rent a couple of games. I had to ride my bike along a highway connector road and cross a narrow, dangerous bridge to get there. Parents today would probably get locked up for letting their kids do that. Once there, they offered free popcorn with a game or movie rental and had new game releases set up for people to try. They even had a "secret" backroom with a curtain covering the door where they kept the pornos. I’d sometimes peek my head in to catch a glimpse of the covers with the naked ladies.

When going to the rental store there was a 100% chance of running into somebody you knew from school so you got to spend more time with them while you searched around. When we were ready after what seemed an eternity we got in line and got ready for a purchase. We even got the extra stuff like popcorn bags, candy and soda for our weekend. We had a great weekend and everybody had fun. >>510490887Yes it is generally but the main issue to zoomers is that this is now considered the minimum. Video tapes were a luxury in the early 80's but became cheap and easy to rent so it was an awesome experience. Same with renting games but now there are 500 demos you can play for free or just play fortnight that there is no excitement. It just another zoomer thing they barely got to experience. Its like how gen-x talks about free roaming before stranger danger came around and how everything was less regulated in general.

>>510493718It's kind of strange, if someone thought the world had somehow changed for the worse, wouldn't they want to try to return to what was better? Or something close to it? I don't get the second part where people are blaming younger people for everything as if they decided to have things suck. It feels more like the louder retards in the front of the crowd are getting all the publicity.
>>510495020It’s funny how you think it’s a “kids these days” thing when the bulk of zoomers are in their fucking 20s. You’re not children anymore, that is the problem. You still think you’re kids, you’re not, you’re in your fucking 20s. It’s pathetic. >>510494502Comfy post anon, it gave me nostalgia. I did the same. There was no internet back then, or barely anyone had it anyways for a long while. So the rental store was also a good place for recommendations to find new things. I loved just browsing through the video's and then the PS1 game section and picking out everything that looked cool and then looking at the pictures on the back and reading the blurb. Everything looked so fun and exciting and it was often legitimately hard to make a choice. Whatever game/film you picked would radically determine how your weekend went. We all had those weekends where we accidentally picked a dud, and then had those other weekends where we found gold and it was so good we later went out and bought a personal copy.
Also do you remember sharing copies of games and video's with friends at school. I remember one day everyone agreed the day prior to bring all of their video games. And at recess and lunch there was a massive crowd of boys from every year in the school all trading games and keeping track of who borrowed what. It was like a school swapmeet for video games and movies. The rentals all agreed to last a week and the weekend, and return to original owner. If you borrowed something from someone, you had to give them something in collateral to borrow so no stealing.

>>510495994Great thing was games were complete. If I got a stinker I made sure to beat it as soon as I could and try again next week. No money went to waste.

>>510490788 (OP)I cannot begin to tell you how many times I would drive to Blockbuster on a Friday night and all the New Releases were GONE. All 40 copies of one movie. Fuck Blockbuster.
>>510495854Know what let's talk about jeets a moment
They type like edgefags from 2005 because they're literally at least 20 years behind the curve at all times
It's why they all buy shitty BMWs and fuck them up by the hundreds. Because when they watch 80s and 90s Hollywood movies with white yuppies driving them it still looks like it was shot in the future compared to their film quality so they assume it's still the white yuppie thing to do
Recently the younger ones have moved into the early 2000s culturally and started buying mustangs
It's a fucking shitshow, it's embarrassing to be on the same planet let alone the same living environment
>>510492586America is browner.
>>510496302>N-no youFuck off Raj, I don’t take orders from browns.
>>510496203i forgot whatt the punishments were for being late for returning games and they probably just outright took the full amount for the game either u left cash with them or whatever
u couldnt really escape
i dont remember how they did it though
i just remember it was a brutal punishment for being late
>>510490887>staying in my house is better than leaving it with my familyIt's so sad. He doesn't know what he's missing ;(
>>510491935>my daughter is downstairs playing REPO with her school friendsPost her feet.
>>510496418Thought so Juan
You will never be white and you will always be a boomer seething at people younger than you
>>510496424For most places here it was cheaper to rent for extra time than be late, but standard rentals were 2-3 days or something, and you only needed the extra time for vidya.
I think renting an xbox og and 3-4 games for a week was like 40 bux?
>>510496302>can't help lmaoing again stop doing lines and go back to bharatchan you stupid jatt
>>510496424At Blockbuster the late fees were around $2/day, which added up quickly. If you kept it past (I think) two weeks, they assumed you weren’t bringing it back and sold it to your account. At that point when you brought it back it had to be readded to the inventory so they would charge you a restocking fee too. Most times I’d just wave the restocking fee if they agreed to pay the $14 for a week of late fees. For gaming systems you had to put a deposit down to get it, which was usually a couple hundred dollars.

>>510493718You couldn't even drive when Obama was president.
You don't even understand.
>>510490788 (OP)Nigger i'm almost 30.
>>510496424Blockbuster claimed they paid for better quality copies of movies and games were meant to uphold more wear and tear and charged you a higher price to buy and why their late fees added up so quickly.
>>510496576The thing about their consoles wasn’t the rental price but the ridiculously high deposit they made you pay to rent consoles.
>>510496772I think the deposit was because they limited the max duration of console rentals.
>>510496410I’ll add that even if Blockbuster did still exist, or were to come back, it would not be the same. Rather than a movie buff wagey, you’d be dealing with some dead eyed brown zoomer.
>Make it a Blockbuster night saar!No thanks.
>>510496827That and consoles were crazy expensive for the time.
>>510494718Yeah it does kinda fit. What's funny is I'd heard about "the last Blockbuster" but the name Bend meant nothing to me at the time so I didn't realize it was here until I moved here and drove past it. (btw I feel like I should say that my company transferred me here before somebody thinks I'm a CA refugee and flips out on me.)
>>510496727I haven't even started on you man, try this-
You will never have a wife.
>>510496827I dunno I ought all the real consoles but like I said in my earlier comment the only one I ever rented was the virtual boy. I even owned a sega Saturn but never owned a sega CD because I was still too young at that time and the sega genesis and Super Nintendo scratched the video game itch until PlayStation and 64 came along before the next gen of consoles that included ps2 Xbox amd game cube
>>510497022>Virtual boyThat used to give me migraines.
You guys ever play that terminator game with the bazooka?
90's were so dope
>>510497022Speaking of I forgot about the sega dreamcast which was honestly better than the PlayStation or the N64 but was the forgotten child of video game consoles that should’ve reigned supreme
>>510497212I had one super nerd friend who somehow got a NeoGeo
Its like the PS3 hardware snafu a generation before. Lack of games at launch
Dreamcast had a bunch of Jap RPGs didn't it?
>>510496889You used to be able to chat with the cashiers and they'd legitimately tell you what was good and what was shit
They used to hook me up with the perfect movies when I brought a girl in
I remember renting consoles I didn't have and plowing through games without any spoilers guides or walk-throughs existing unless you wanted to buy a hardcopy book.
>>510497320I’m sure why the Dreamcast never took off, it was ahead of it’s time since it got dropped in the PlayStation and N64 era and got over taken by the PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube era.
>>510495204Nigga you can't use an OS file system because every screen you've ever used was designed for literal boomers who still couldn't find the any key after 20 years. You weren't even supposed to have that tech. It was designed by Apple for literal actual adult boomer retards to finally get their money, but they put it in your dirty hands to stop you from crying, and look what happened.
>>510497559I was a cashier there. The store I worked at is a Bulk Barn now.

>>510497671>>510497847Sorry mang quoted the wrong anon
>>510491488Blockbuster had the chance to buy Netflix and they declined
>>510497917That's fine I'm working late and couldn't think of a good leaf shitpost anyway.
>>510498031netflix is worse than blockbuster i already explained that
netflix literally was old black and white films backk then it didnt have anything
>>510498031Biggest corporate fuck up ever like sears not buying Amazon… I miss the fuck out of blockbuster and the actual smell of their stores :’(
>>510490788 (OP)for me it was the smell of hundreds of fresh VHS tapes sitting on the shelves. i loved walking into the local video store with my dad after he got off work for the week. it was a special kind of sensory overload ill never forget.
>>510498171sears was better than amazon
shipping to a central location is cheaper than shipping to individual houses for each item
retail is mathematically more sustainable than e commerce
>>510498217Certain places have a unique smell
>Dentist office>Church>Blockbuster
>>510497824>Bulk BarnThe blockbuster of snack food, almost as quaint as a pottery barn or value village
If they pack it in im calling it
Is there any conceivable way to run a brick and mortar video rental store nowadays? Maybe have it be partially a mail model, but who even has a Blu-ray player? As a kid my dream teenage job was to work at my local video store, but they all but died out when I was employable.

>>510498171>the smellOh man I totally remember the smell. I’ve been in the process of converting all my home videos from VHS to mp4, its so depressing seeing life before smartphones. We can never go back either but I’m raising my kids like the 90s, they don’t even watch TV.

>>510498251Yeah but once you add in physical location rent, employees etc overhead Netflix took off once they were able to scale streaming without having to send physical copies and if I’m not mistaken Netflix blew up off their video game rentals and not off movies. I can’t remember the name of the video game service but that’s what gave them massive market share.
>>510498416I posted this earlier but there’s no point. You’re trying to capture lightning in a bottle. The time has passed. No one wants to deal with some brown dead eyed zoomer renting them movies. Half of the fun of blockbuster was chatting with the movie buff wagies. Zoomers would ruin it. And theft would be rampant.
>>510498416it has to include delivery u can get a game to a customer faster than they can download it
physical gaming is superior
and same thing with movies if u can get a cheap rental to someone delivered then why would they even need netflix and shit
its very doable they just didnt want to make it a reality they believed in fake digital meme shit
put the movies on drives i guess because they dont even have dvd players on em anymore
