>>510509272I was stared down by a black bear once. I know people call them big racoons, but I could tell this one was a man eater. It was also huge. Anyway, as he challenged me, I made myself bigger and made noise. It was breeding season so he wasn't backing down. Within that confrontation, I somehow lost bowel control (you don't know who you are until you stare death in the face). Thankfully I had been fasting for awhile. As part of being in bear country, to lessen my sent and take less supplies. Anyway, I somehow, let out this horrible smelling fart during the standoff. I then noticed the bear flare his nose as soon as it came out. It was a long rip. No wet fart or anything. Just a very stale old fart. Miraculously, the wind was blowing from me to the bear. As soon as the stench molecules neared the bear's nose, I noticed Flehmen response. For like 3 seconds the bear took in the smell. Eventually, it got him. And he ran like he had just faced death. Fast, very fast. I even heard grunting, fear grunting. Me? I vomited and and my knees gave way with massive trembles. Not sure if the vomit (mostly bilious) was due to an adrenaline dump or the stench. But man, that was a story to remember.
