this issue has been coming up a lot recently, im going to give you my opinion due to the fact that i don’t believe that most of what the news media outlets and youtube videos out there haven’t stitched up the cold truths.Im going to give you guys the raw truth in why thats happening and how this is going to affect us , some of you may not like but it needs to be said at this point , this problem's been coming for 20 plus years ,I think the industry knew it was coming and they exactly nothing about it they keep preaching the same solutions that just hasn’t worked
>Inb4
>this is all my opinion of coarse.
>But this is also 25 years of experience in this field.

>>510500979 (OP)a little bit of background about myself) i have worked third shift for 8 of my years Road service , dealership, unions, all kinds of conditions worked nights days week ends holidays , i started out as a helper back then when there was no background checks no drug tests, and no other stuff of that nature , pretty much worked with some undesirable people you had to have thick skin to work back then , it was a different time , either way i put my time in and its safe to say i can give you my opinion on this
I have seen some of these issues happen to me and others like me so to stay on point.
>>510500979 (OP)>>510501050>#1 concern - upper management. The number one concern I can think of why we got here is upper management in these larger companies has just destroyed the whole reputation and outlook of this job , with them
Taking out incentives and the pay away they are just more concerned about other issues , and not actually repairing the stuff that needs to be fixed, the claim that he units are all done well on paper because at the end of the day its all about money for them and not getting it done right, and not even taking care of the men and women that get it done right.
the other issue that has been common lately is the fact that there is a lot of individuals that are in upper management that should not be there due to their low experience , i feel that they did not put their time in they just dont have the experience to speak on or deal with what we deal with and tell us what and how to do it.
>when I started out everyone in upper >management/sales/advisors were ex >mechanics so it was easier to take orders from >them to take guidance from and advice mentorship etc, >they knew what it took they knew how long it took, best case scenario worst case scenario >they knew if the vehicle would not be able to make the repair on time. And they were able to get any situation covered instead of lying to customers and mechanics, wich is have seen a lot of that going on ,
>they would claim the unit would be ready when it wont because they dont know what it takes to get it done.
this is BULLSHIT fear mongering from a country and system that wants you all dead of poverty
How are you supposed to hire someone who doesn't do drugs when all you pay them is only enough to buy drugs?
>>510500979 (OP)pay sucks i stopped doing it, flipping burgers was more money less work
>>510501133>>510501135>>510501159>#2 concern - mechanics pay.The second biggest concern mechanics have is pay , pay is not nearly enough for the amount of
Work , tools, knowledge and experience needed in this career.
>when i first started out i ran in with a few >buddies of mine and i was making about 4$ or >$5 dollars an hour more than then they were - >fast forward 5 or 6 years later they are making >$25,000 dollars more a year than me in their selective careers. So this career just did not stay up the pace in pay compared to the other careers , me and many others in this field have tried to look into
Something else to get out of this career a couple times earlier on , on my behalf i just couldn’t afford to do it and i personally think the industry does this to you in order to trap you in to it because thats what it kinda did to me , and the longer your in depending on your experience you cant really go anywhere else. The toolage is only getting more and more expensive they expect you to have every tool and not pay you for it ,
>the incentives like food and tool allowance are gone with the wind.>the last time i brought it up in an interview the >interviewer had no ideas what i was even talking about or what that was, never hear of it.
>>510501207>>510501246>3# concern -benefits and retirement. Now the benefits could be much better retirement could be much better,
>all the different jobs i have had over the years the benefits were never really that great. They have been kinda of expensive including the ones that pay for the mechanics benefits were still crappy in its own way.
>one company i worked for payed for your >benefits %100 but had no retirement whats so ever. And with that all said the company still wondered why they couldn’t get anybody especially to stay long term , many guys would stay a year or two and move on.
>>510501317>>510501246>#4 concern - loyalty and trustLoyalty is out the window for these previous reasons that i have mentioned , if you are not offered enough money they are going to move on,
>this has happened to me i have asked for a >raise and they gave me every excuse under the >book why they didn’t have it , they couldn’t do it Not right now, etc. So then i put my notice in , two weeks later and now all of a sudden they came up with the money i have had this happen to me and multiple other guys i have worked with , so right after that you just have a bad taste in your mouth. , upper management is constantly lying to mechanics thats another big issue i see and its getting worse lately than ever.
> heres the thing - to you upper management people.!!!!!!!
If you’re gonna start lying to your mechanics and you get caught in a lie thats it!!!! That guy is pretty much done with you and will never ever look at the company the same again!!!
If somewhere wanted to train me to be a mechanic then I'd sign on. Reality is that they want mechanic schooling and experience, and I am not in a position to pay to hopefully maybe get work.
>>510501317shops like that you buy your tools to get started and move on
#5 biggest concern - lay offs and degradation.
You keep hearing me mention about upper management over and over and its , this issue started during the pandemic a lot of the larger companies and car dealerships started pushing away and getting rid of older mechanics , they felt that they were getting paid to much and not getting work done for some reason so???¿
>they got rid of them for what ever reason.
I actually heard some one from the financial side of the last company i worked for say that for what they were paying two older mechanics they can hire four younger guys to do double the work
For twice the money and less pay.
>and thats what they ended up doing.
They had this great idea of leasing or buying fleet trucks , keep them 5 years right under warranty this way the younger guys would just do brakes ,tires, and oil changes everything else would have to be done at the dealer ,
>only problem with is it backfired on them and >they had more trucks at the dealer then they >had on the road. Kek
So that that technically did not work , a lot of these truck leasing companies liked to hire kids straight out of tech schools , they promise them the world after a year.
>well the year showed up with empty promises,
>Just recently i heard last year one of the >biggest ford dealerships had 11 or 12 guys walk >right out the job for that reason alone.
I guess they kind of shot themselves in the foot on that , these companies expect these kids to get all their licenses and diplomas or certificates
That they ask them to do and they dont keep their end of the bargain.
>>510500979 (OP)In the very near future almost all mechanics will be Hispanic. They will up charge you if you are white while talking in Spanish and laughing with each other. The same goes for Indians and the tech field. The way I see it there is no reversing the trend for the reasons you stated. I have no hope for the future at all.
>>510501519>>510501533>>510501562>Conclusion to this rant of mine.Well what a lot of these places don’t know or realize is that mechanics talk to one another tool trucks talk and spread gossip , end up making these auto dealerships and big truck companies have a bad reputation for the guys trying to apply or work for them you know.
>With that all being said here are some RED FLAGS for those of you still wanting to work in >this field/ career. These are things that i look for that i will not work for.>sign on bonus.I was told years ago by an older gentleman that if they offer a sign on bonus that means they cant get anyone to stay long term for said position.
>flat rate.I Will not work for flat rate its a no go , the billable hours are not real and this system will only create bad mechanics, one person said that they were making good money on flat rate until they had a vehicle return back to them one week, and then other shift stabbed him in the back and said that he did everything wrong they then took his paycheck and a half on bi weekly pay , so he worked with out getting pay for an entire month
>once you take my pay away im done , i will roll my tool box out that day.> bi weekly pay.I will not work for bi weekly pay thats what many companies want you to do so that way they can trap you in this field like i said earlier with no other options you’ll just have to keep going to show up to work , if i work every week and come in early and leave late to manage things i expect to get paid on that same week./ a little personal but thats how it works in my eyes, i want my pay every week. Used to work for bi weekly for many years btw.
>>510500979 (OP)You are full of shit, two wall of text post that say absolutely nothing.
If you had anything of value you would have elaborated on that. Instead you use emotional bullshit.
KYS.
>>510501750>And the biggest one of them all !!!!>unions.now a days Its either a hit or miss , but in my case i will not work for unions anymore , i worked on 3 of them over in my career some of them were big names like Detroit Allison and harvard cummins&caterpillar , but when you constantly see unions save bums and screw over the good guys i got tired of it,
>in my experience i had a legitimate grievance >with my child hospitalized that i clearly advised >management about missing 4 days off of work.>i later come back to work with them writing me >up and sending me home with out not wanting >to hear my pleas and reasons with a doctors note and referral.watched myself get the short end of the stick and so on i got tired if it , but then i would constantly see guys comeback to the company guys that failed drug tests or stole things or committed crimes on the company site, comeback with all their back pay and seniority with all the benefits as well, so i got tired of it and said im out.
>End of the rant - whats going to happen in the future??.
Well my generation is getting older we will be getting out or retiring if we’re lucky in a few years soon i know that there’s some guys behind me but after that there wont be to many wrenches out there in the work force. Theres gonna be a big gap in the coming of years even if they bring people to this industry you will still see the gap show up , they keep preaching the same methods that have not worked before and will surely not work now , i really think automation will also take place but thats not going to work. , i do think that that mechanic will become so easy to the point were they are going to be babysitting mechanic’s ,
>Just imagine a guy working on your car while watching a video or tutorial on how to do the repair.
>The biggest thing that is happening as we speak is migrants taking over the field by storm, and obviously with all that said labor will be paid to pennies to a dollar and the customers will be up charged for more than what they will have certified mechanics with experience do the work for.

Then you'll spend 9 months total over 3 years in school learning stuff that could be taught from YouTube videos with maybe an old engine to take apart as a team. Then you'll spend another 2 years trying to build a relationship with a mechanic and hope to god he'll take your /o/istic ass on as an apprentice but will never teach you anything because he has his own work and has no incentive to train you. Then you'll get put into flat rate pay too early, during the slow season, averaging less than minimum wage because the service manager gives the gravy jobs to his favorites. You'll have no benefits, no pension and no cartilage in your knees/back after leaning over an engine for decades inhaling V.O.C.s.

I am a dealership mechanic. Our customers pay $230 an hour for labor, and I get paid $16 an hour, flat rate. I see the Taco Bell around the corner has a help wanted sign and they start at $16.25 an hour. When we ask for raises the manager tells us to be more efficient and flag more hours. What actually happens is mechanics lie about doing brake flushes, transmission services etc so they can fit more vehicles into a single shift. If you dont do this you cant compete with your peers and your job is on the chopping block. We are here to make the dealership as much profit as possible. That means shipping as many cars as possible without the customers noticing anything was wrong.

>>510500979 (OP)I read your posts and my conclusion is pretty simple: the owners/investor made the mechanics job worse to increase their profit margin. At every single # you can see that these changes that happened over the years made them reduce the costs of labour.
It's about time you guys grow out of your "socialism is le bad" and realise that everything that seems wrong must have at least some level of thruth to it if it persiste for that long, and in the case of marxism it's definetly the concept of "class struggle", which is the idea that in the economic relations within capitalism occur a constant battle (sometimes silent, sometimes violent) between working class and the capitalist class, and the reason why i bring this up is the fact that many professions get degraded like this over time on purpose, and the reason almost always is the greed of the owners and investors.
I am a sailor and i constantly have to work with decrepit towboats equiped with ancient navigation devices, sometimes as old as 60 years old, with very little significant reform, because it's cheaper for owners and investors to make us work in terrible conditions and risk while paying the fines and constant patchwork fixes than buying better and newer vessels.
This also applies to the current issue of illegal immigration in the US and why i believe Trump won't be able to fix it: the owners and investors that make use of the illegal labour will simply not accept to reduce their profit margin by paying fair wages to citizens, they would rather downsize their business and invest that equivalent capital somewhere else if they actually lose the cheaper labour than bitting the bullet and making the wages and labour conditions acceptable to american citizens. So the reason why you have to live among spics is so some farmers, hotel owners, construction moguls and all kinds of business investors can have higher profit margins.

>>510500979 (OP)i don't care lmao. cars suck ass. no one wants a car - they are forced to get one because the US has absolutely no public transportation outside of large cities. mechanics also don't make any money, like most jobs now.
>>510504310they say its pay and ethics
but really its just car companies going into their always intentional model of forcing your hand to keep buying a new car.
The amount of bullshit mechanics have to do to maintain newer cars is hilarious.
In an older car to change something it can be as easy as opening the hood and replacing it.
Now? you gotta plug it into a PC and put into diagnostic mode, than use this very specific tool to remove 3 bolts, in that which now you need to replace the part with an entire new part because it was never intended to be taken apart in the first place
so now the mechanic has wasted 3 hours in what would be a 20 min job and is getting paid for a 20 minute job.
Sounds fun right?
>>510500979 (OP)When the next depression hits it will be a million times worse than the last one. The last one anyone could go out and fill that gap if they had a few tools and a few brain cells to rub together the next one all the government regulation agencies will continue to operate because government parasites are immune to economic factors so you will still need to have a dozen government certificates to do an oil change and problems will just compound and public school educated boomer retards will just say "bring in more hordes of browns" because they are brainwashed golem. of course robots will just do everything so theres that too.
im an extremely skilled mechanic, been wrenching since i was a kid. i would rather be homeless than wrench on cars all day for a shop that charges out 200 an hour and pays me 16. shops are scamming people 2000 bucks for a brake job that takes like 2 hours and mechanics dont get shit.
ive worked in adjacent industries around mechanics too and its the same fucking shit. they rush you through shit that shouldnt be rushed, have insane training demands and the pay is shit and every single person above you is a raging spastic that treats you worse than a slave
if youre gonna do it, fly under the radar on a property and fix shit for cash, but even then the customers are so fucking broke nowadays that there just isnt enough fat on the bone to make decent money.
shit like this is just more outward evidence that the entire basis of our economy is fucked. these are the most essential jobs in modern society and they dont pay shit but some fat middle aged woman is getting paid 80k a year post shit to facebook for a government agency or a corporation
I heard the Soviet cars were designed to be fixable by the average yokel with basic tools and I see the problem with Judeo-capitalism. I don't want the state running industry but we should put our foot down on a lot of nonsense with the economy.
>>510506288cars up until about 2005ish were fixable for the average yokel. up until about 1980 they were fixable by literal retards on the side of the road with basic hand tools. the industry has been trending towards making things unfixable since around then with emissions and shitty practices like intake manifolds over spark plugs and such but once they could lock diagnostics behind propriety communication protocols/software and cables it was basically over for shade tree mechanics.
>>510506178we are basically in a depression already, they just mask it with fake stats and call it a recession. theres very little stuff you can do outside for cash of this gay fake economy now. theyve set this entire thing up so you need to get paid by a corporation or large scale business
>>510500979 (OP)it's almost as if laborers are paid minimum wages without any share of the profits or ownership of their workplaces so they have no shits to give. why isn't anyone asking why WOMEN aren't filling these traditional male jobs??
>>510501133>>510501413I think these two issues are universal to American industry. We have a big problem with businesses getting run by people who have never worked for a business, they just went to school to learn how to run a business. It's like when you have officers in the army who start out as officers, their parents want them exempted from the usual climb up but the usual climb up is what grants competence, not the school. I saw it in just about every place I've worked, except really low end retail.
The loyalty issue goes back to the 80s/90s when it was decided (coincidentally as the boomers reached upper management) that laying people off was a valid way to raise profitability. Since then any sense of love or loyalty between employer and employee has been lost. We switched to free market capitalism, red in tooth and claw.
>>510502163Everything is going to get worse as your generations retire because you niggers did everything in your power to destroy the futures of the people who would have taken the baton from you. Not just mechanics, everything from farming to the power grid is nearly irrecoverably fucked.

>>510507902think how kino its gonna be once the powergrid starts failing and all these niggercattle that cant operate anything are starving
>>510507130no the actual problem that arose is the government in the 80s decided because it couldn't specifically spend money in fixing a problem they outsourced it to a contractor. The contractor would than come solve the problem and get paid. Thing is after a few year of this it started to daisy chain into contractors contracting contractors who all reach for the sky to get those juicy government contracts. It expanded even further to where theres this absurdly comical chain of processing from up to 7 to 10 people who have to call each other JUST for 1 fucking guy to fix a problem.
This created that environment of where you need stupidly highly prerequisites to do anything even though the people actually DOING the fucking job seem like they don't have a FUCKING clue what they're doing.
Its not gonna get any better we just have to wait for the end to come
>>510500979 (OP)Each car manufacturer has a million fucking nuanced details, tons of new sensors, it's all electronic which makes it restricted to dealer only repair at a fixed price, right to repair is treated as a joke, and anyone who knows how to work on older cars quits because the people who need them fixed are broke and struggling in this shit economy. There is no future in this unless you work for one of the monopolized car dealers. Too complex to fix new cars (by design) and it's cat and mouse to find out all the schematics and practices which change and get patched by the car companies. It's no longer picking up a wrench, reading the owners manual and going to the hardware store. It's fucked. John Deere tractors need to get towed on a trailer to the nearest dealer at a crazy markup with proprietary software and hardware like sensors & other bloatware. It's what killed Windows, 11 is just AI slop code with tons of bloat spyware.
Fuck that shit, rather work at an Auto parts chain than be covered in grease for shit pay with a retard alcoholic or drugged out boss.

In other words, good luck getting my wagon off the road.

>>510500979 (OP)I've seen this episode before!
>Spend a few years saying that X field has a lot of openings, and is a surefire career path>Spin up a shit ton of sketchy education institutions that are just good enough to get accreditation and allow students to get federal loans.>A few years after large numbers of people start attending these schools for said profession, industry begins importing shitskins because 'can't find workers' or some shit.>Double whammy in the form of huge numbers of people going through training show up looking for jobs that are filled with shitskins, and now that 'surefire career' pays minimum wage, and you're in immense debt.Fuck the labor market. It's impossible to make informed decisions about career path in the modern world, because oligarchs will mass import labor, and the government will subsidize mass training to depress labor value.
>>510510287The “schooling” scam is modern. Older generations were hired after working in the military or something and learned on the job. Max H.S. degree
I have a degree, it was easy to get. I got scholarships etc too. The hardest part was dealing with my employers, the work was straightforward mostly.
>>510507972It's not going to be kino at all though, foreign hoards who hate us and want us dead, millions of junky fucks, and starving normies who will come for us because the people who caused all this shit will be dead(boomers) or insulated from consequence(elites)
>>510501246This is obviously poorly written ai slop. Look at that absolute sperg out attempt at greentext
I’m seriously about to just stop using the internet. Fucking absolutely everything is fucking ai now.
>>510500979 (OP)Time to import Bharatians.
>>510500979 (OP)In SOCAL all the recent grads I know switched out of that career bc shop owners are only interested in not paying them for their work
Only cool if you can get in with a Mercedes or other big dealer
>>510500979 (OP)It's because flat rate is bullshit and you need at least 110 iq in order to make good money. The average dumb fuck is just going to become a heavy duty mechanic instead and not deal with that bullshit and make more money being a retard that throws parts at a problem until it works.
>>510500979 (OP)mechanics are not what they used to be
modern cars are just plug and play
>read error codes>replace faulty partweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
>>510500979 (OP)>the mechanic shortageHumble Brain Damaged Welder here, I can Fix anyhting on a car, I just can't do it as fast because I don't have a lift, so I just repair the flips I find, and my families aging automobiles.
I’m a Mercedes Benz technician. The profession doesn’t pay jack shit. No overtime at my dealer. Flat rate is fucking obsolete. I would not recommend being a mechanic until there’s an overhaul.
>>510510975I'm not ai. I'm the last human on 4chin.
>>510511242Shame they made pits illegal to build, because retards kept getting themselves killed in them. Cheaper than a lift, and makes a lot of car maintenance way way easier.
Pretty sure I can manage almost anything on my car, but I don't like trusting jacks.
>>510511763Go ahead and ask chat got to explain why you decided to
>greentext randomly for >no reason while >adding meaningless >> marks in the middle of sentences >without line breaksYou did this in every single post you stupid fucking fag.
>>510512015>when you're so ass blasted and retarded you cant even tell you're not even replying to the same personWhy do burgers always go out of their way to prove the rest of the world right about them?
>>510501750>>sign on bonus.>I was told years ago by an older gentleman that if they offer a sign on bonus that means they cant get anyone to stay long term for said position.>Mouser fucking Electronics.500 dollar sign on bonus for call center shit. Move you around from department to department so until they find one you can't do well in. Or like me good at all of them but still coming up on my first anniversary working there... They fucking let me and everyone who was in my training class and another that started a few months after mine go. Our last checks were all short noticeably. One girl who missed a week and a half from being sick says on Facebook they sent her a bill for three hundred bucks. Turns out the five hundred dollar bonus they gave us on our first check would be taken out of our last check if we didn't last twelve months from sign on date.
>>510500979 (OP)I work at a luxury German dealership and make $16/hr, own $10,000 in tools personally and the shop is overcrowded with people so I can’t move up
This is why there is a shortage
Mechanics are paid generally flat rate , which means if the shop is slow you starve, no matter how good or experienced you are, it’s the biggest scam in the world . Worst fuckint industry ever
Total Kike Death heals this industry and every other
I've thought about this for a while now and have concluded that the only way this car situation better for both parties (Car owners and Mechanics) is to forgo the car company and go back to building one own car. Make it so people can construct a car with a mechanics advice.
Kinda like a build-a-bear but for cars. Might not be the fastest but it would get everyone around where the need to go.
>>510511839>trusting jacksNever trust a jack retard.
>>510500979 (OP)Nice sky is falling, faggot.
Mechanics are a dime a dozen.
>>510509619i care what a wal mart worker thinks
also cars are not even very expensive. who cares, they are more or less disposable. just get a bike with a little engine on it to go fast on the bike lane, fuck it
>>510512869i found an even better solution: pay off the car early, and save my money while the car is under warranty, and then roll over the savings into a new car, so that you always have a car under warranty
>>510500979 (OP)Good thing we'll all have self driving electric cars soon. Should've protected your industry instead of your wallet, big bro
>>510500979 (OP)AI will replace them.
Pay better and don't force me to work overtime then
>>510500979 (OP)No one wants to turn a wrench and bust their ass and damage their back and knees for minimal pay. Fuck that shit.
>>510500979 (OP)It has nothing to do with concerns you listed.
It's just that newer generations of tech-minded people are interested in newer tech, and you don't have time left to learn the old one.
I'm as millennial has been obsessed with computers since childhood, I had been learning coding from fucking books when there was no internet, but I can't do shit with my car.
Same for new generation and AI. They still can't fix their car and they can't code for shit, but they can keep up with the insane AI development speed, while I'm lagging behind because I have to actually integrate it into something.
>>510505668lmao, this retard, thinking actual engineers design shit stupidly like that. the whole point of engineering is to make solutions efficient, simple, safe, and as logical as possible. when you have a situation where the one bolt to get into your engine requires you to take off the front of your car and use a special drive that only that car company makes, that's not an engineering decision.
engineers don't give a shit about cost in reality; you hand an engineer enough money, he can make anything work. accounting doesn't care either if you save a quarter of a penny, because it costs a millionth of a half penny to make that shit. bad design decisions on products are a result of some upper management faggot or someone in marketing who wants a tagline to help 'move product'.
as far as the OP goes, the problem will solve itself. There will be a generation and a half, likely the zoomers and the transitional generation between zoomers and whatever comes after them (not calling them gen alpha because they're proving to be extra fucking gay & retarded so far) that will not be able to handle any of their business, property, and commodities themselves. It's going to force the generation after them to move into the trades hard, which you can already see happening with the smarter zoomers and millennials who are tired of holding down boring desk-sitting jobs.
There's no need to worry about sectors disappearing; mechanics will come back because all these new fangled kike-brained systems will start getting chucked out in favor of inline 6s and v8s because the electric car is dead, as is green energy. The shit isn't efficient enough for the cost and research time & effort, and it won't be until it cleanly outstrips geothermal heating & power generation and/or hydroelectric power. Enjoy what time you have left and stop worrying so much; anxiety is jewish by nature. Life always sorts itself out.
Car mechanics are all driving extra noisy cars I hate them
>>510500979 (OP)I've met tons of young mechanics in my field, usually around 16 - 22, and they're all really good at what they do, but none of them work in the field professionally. The money simply isn't there, mechanic shops don't pay enough so they do it on the side.
Interesting thread,I like it when someone with real experience brings it to the chans
>>510500979 (OP)>shop charges $150/hour for labor>pays the mechanic $25/hourThis shit needs to change.
>>510500979 (OP)Car companies keep engineering the biggest most hostile piles of shit. No I won't rip the car apart just to replace an air filter. I'd rather trace data cables and install windows 11 in offices unironically.
>>510500979 (OP)Dogshit wages for dirty, dangerous work.
>>510512728This, as usual
Mechanics shops should be owned by the people who do the work. The office roastie shuffling paperwork shouldn't make twice as much as the grease monkeys.
If you're going to do mechanic go Maritime or Aviation get in and get your Third Engineer and do boilers, welding, electrical, plumbing all for a ship and make 6 figures
Or go aviation and do it for aircraft
Car mechanic is for retards there's no money in it and you will be treated like shit
Buddy of mine was a certified diesel mechanic then went Maritime, he'll never go back
>>510515847Buying a new car is pure retardation
Only buy used and buy pre 2011 for cars.
Pay seems to be the biggest issue i've found.
My company has a fleet of diesel trucks and we simply cannot keep a mechanic employed. I think we've gone through 3 in the last year. Presently we have not had a mechanic for the last ~3 months. Our trucks are breaking down one by one and we don't have anyone to fix them, we're having to contract out a mechanic to drive in from another state to work on them. But he is extremely expensive and has limited availability, so our trucks are out of service for weeks, sometimes even a month or two at a time. Meanwhile our line workers are struggling to get by with half their trucks broken down and the other half either partially working, working but certain things are broken, or working if you can perform whatever voodoo to get it to work long enough to get the job done.
But yeah, why come work here as a mechanic for $24 an hour when there's a military base down the road hiring contractors for $40 an hour?
It's brutal, tedious, laborious work minimum wage. Golly gee why aren't young men signing up to be mechanics??
idk about auto mechanics but I do a different type of repair and the pay kind of sucks if you don't own the business. when I got laid off I was making $21 an hour. the local pizza place was offering $17 + tips. I think everyone is so used to low prices because of cheap shit from china and slave labor from mexicans that when it's time to pay an american for real work they don't want to do it.
>>510516244Yeah I'm sure the cheap shit from china and mexicans caused house prices and rent to skyrocket or food to increase in price
wrenching on my own shit is fun, well most of the time, but I don't think it would be that great as a profession. Most shit you can learn to work on yourself anyways. Would rather do it as a hobby
>>510516244It's more they can't fucking afford it. People are broke as fuck. Literally everything is expensive and it is not going to get better soon. An enormous number of people are being laid off.
>>510516221because EBT doesn't pay your bills, and lazy girl jobs are extinct?
>>510516407Gas in the west coast is 5 dollars a gallon, diesel is 5.20+ cents. I can barely afford to keep driving to work everyday myself. I might just get a one way ticket to Japan and be homeless there im sick of grinding for no return on my investment.
temporarily and maybe work at a ramen shop and learn Japanese and live in Osaka.

It's a result of their familiarity level with computers and keyboards, I guess.

>>510505488Engineers should have to do the equivalent of residency med students do so they can work on the shit they design for a few years and see how they like it.
You can keep your electronic fag bullshit, I'll keep wrenching on my 2000 4x4.
>Wish it had a carburetor...
>>510502163>i do think that that mechanic will become so easyNo the fuck it won't you're either a fake larping faggot or some retarded boomer that's mostly worked with carbs and non sensor filled cars. When it takes me over an hour of dissembling nearly an entire dash just to change a cabin air filter that's not a sign of shit getting easier that's a sign of faggot ass boomer run corporate boards making traitorous executive decisions to save pennies on the dollar or more importantly to them to keep money flowing back to them by soft locking repairs to retarded dealer made tools so realistically only they can do the work. Sure "right to repair" exist on paper but only if your willing to shell out a couple thousand dollars to buy a scan tool and the lastest software so you can reprogram your fucking brake calipers everytime you go to change out the pads.
