Owning a home sucks. There is always a backlog of shit to do between lawn mowing, snow shoveling, weeds, gutters, driveways, maintenance, repairs, cleaning, etc. You need a $20k+ rainy day fun as a homeowner for financial security in case anything catastrophic happens or you need a new roof. If you find peace and purpose spending your weekend on that shit its fine (I know many guys that do), but an apartment is much more mentally freeing in terms of giving you time and energy for other things. When you buy an apartment you don't own the land. At best just a small fraction of it, that's useless by itself and exists only for legal reasons, no garden, the apartment layout is fixed, have to ask permissiond for virtually everything, higher likelihood of have trouble with neighbours, etc. Aparments are basically prisons.

BTW, I'm not an American nor right winger either (owning a home in the US sucks because of annoying zoning laws). I just believe in home ownership. And thank God I own my home.

I lived in an apartment during college, the people above me were some sort of Middle Eastern students. They'd stay up late at night to watch the football games going on back in their home country and scream at the top of their fucking lungs for their team. They would dance and jump on my ceiling. They would openly throw trash out the balcony.
Eventually they moved out and around that time I got some sort of internet upgrade and I had to show the internet guy up to their old place so he could access some wires. That place was fucking gutted. There were 12" diameter burn marks on the carpet (I'm assuming from hookah getting knocked over). The linoleum countertop was burned in several spots from putting hot pans directly on the counter. Holes in the wall, the ceiling was a light brown color from all the smoke. Disgusting spots of mystery goop that had been grinded into the carpet. And that was just the living room/kitchen, I didn't even go into any bedrooms or bathrooms. I can only imagine how waterlogged the bathroom was if they likely treated it like a wetroom like bathrooms are in their country.

tl;dr the people who live in apartments tend to be trash human beings, why would I intentionally stick myself in great density with them.

Humans like all other animals need a certain amount of space, to raise a family that needs space which a private single family unit provides. Humans get stressed when living around virtual strangers as there is no sense of trust or community and every other individual is a potential threat. Apartments also have access levels of noise and foreign smells which can negatively impact mental health. For optimal physical and mental well being a single unit will always be better than an apartment.
