PBS and NPR were/are very left wing. I do not have a problem with this personally, however if a news outlet is funded by the gov it should be neutral in its political leanings. At the end of the day gov sponsored news organizations are a bad idea. They will never be completely unbiased.

It is also important to remember that it is quite hard to be completely neutral and still be effective, especially with journalism, as you have to prioritise that over impactfulness. You have to be careful. So you can't be too strict with that requirement or everything remotely biased on either side will get defunded, which means less perspectives and that's bad for everyone.
