the best is when imported from china these are like 500 EUR (~580 USD), costs like 3 EUR a day to run (3.50 USD) and can be replaced without any issue. same if you move, you just move it with you, you only have to replace the velcro for the covering. exhaust hood is also a way to connect them in case you live at ground level and dont want to have an open window due to burglars

Since the earth itself 3 feet deep is always at the average temp of the previous day (at average of year at 10 feet), why not just build houses that are cooled by the earth? In most places doing one of the averages (daily, or yearly) would make the home a constant 70 degrees

hystericals think using ac means some climatechange will happen
we have so many idiots here its unbearable

also people are too stupid to calculate electricty prices and foresee the costs

also regulations, in rented apartments its often illegal to use AC with an external unit unless some special permit gets achieved, and even more crazy even if you own the apartment as long as one single other owner on the house objects the "baupolizei" will come and tear it down aftr fining you into oblivion

thats why smart people use indoor units, it circumvents the stupid regulations

Sure but other than their capacity it's essentially a big mini-split, unless it's a water/air or water/water type.
I want to buy some land and build a steel frame house with insulating panels and install a water/water type heat pump, solar water heater, photovoltaics and a well water pump with a filtration system and water softener.
Basically as much comfort as possible without relying on utilities. Of course I want to grow vegetables and chickens too so I can produce at least a part of my own food.
It's too late to hope to live away from people, but I want to get as much independence as possible.

Most houses in Europe are built to withstand the cold and well insulated.
We spend our money on central heating.
Why don't homes in Arizona have decent central heating?

They use coils of pipes under the ground to pump that heat into your home in winter and vice-versa in summer.
You can also run underfloor heating/cooling which is perfectly silent unlike an AC, it's pretty neat though expensive.

>I'm stuck in a 50 square meter apartment, alone
I mean same, but it's my own choice, I don't want to live back at home with my parents.

Why do you think US houses dont have central heating? Depending on where they live in AZ they do have decent heating, but in some areas its needed less.
I live in the midwest, and we regularly see yearly temps swing from ~10F to ~98. Outlier days see air temps below 0F and above 100F. We need both good heat and good AC which are both helped by good insulation which we have. From a cost and materials perspective, it is not overly practical to build homes that can handle those temps without the use of HVAC. This is why HVAC is major design components of homes and buildings. Though the specifics of what exactly is used varies by region.

We used to joke about the fuss made around CFCs but the little that got into the atmosphere paled into insignificance compared to the ozone destroying Methane from cow farts.
Do you know what else releases shit tones of Methane? . . .. . Fresh water rivers and lakes, perhaps the eco-warriors should ban those too?
