And the above example is a lot more cut and dry than Epstein. To understand the Epstein thing you need to have been following the case somewhat, and be aware of what has been said by the DOJ contradicting what's said now, as well as things like the CCTV tape being edited, the difficulty of him actually killing himself. Maxwell and her father's connections. Etc etc.
Normies do not give a fuck about this, it's a thing political junkies care about. Normies know Epstein was a bad guy, they know politicians were sleeping with young girls because of him, they've accepted this fact.
Keep in mind the flight logs were released a few years ago.
Bill Clinton is on the flight logs to the island and he is not a pariah figure for it either.

The reason the first thing is a big deal to normies is because it was a media circus primarily because it involved one political party attacking another. Objectively it wasn't a particularly big crime compared to a million other actions by Presidents and yet Nixon is remembered as a 'crook' to this day.

There's several reasons for the lies.
One reason is Trump just says whatever will help him in that particular moment, so when he was campaigning it was in his interest to talk about the Epstein files as well as for his team to do so. Not anymore though.
I don't know why there's all these stupid lies lately. They could have lied about the memo a lot better. Trump also lies when he doesn't need to lie.

Keep in mind Epstein was first arrested nearly 20 years ago, who knows how much has been deleted by now. I already mentioned how in the Maxwell trial the flight logs came out.
