I'm surprised that with NDE research, people can believe in that kind of nonsense. The question should be: If there is life after death, why is there even life before death? I'm Christian, but I'm very well read on NDE research, and there's a very strong nagging feeling that I have that there's something else going on apart from Christian teaching, and recalled NDE experiences. The question of "why" is still not there...and I cant help but think of how here on Earth, when you're told do something, and they won't let you know why, chances are, because that person wants to keep it a secret from you, and the reason for doing that isn't always meant in good faith.

You also have to define "death". After 20 seconds the cerebral cortex isn't processing anything anymore (responsible for thinking and processing). If you don't think that's when "death" happens, then that's fine, but conscious experiences aren't possible because the cerebral cortex isn't functioning anymore, thus any conscious, lucid experience that is produced after that time, can't be a function of the brain.
