as a longtime fan this is the first time i've felt like i've outgrown MDE. I didn't keep up with fishtank because it looked retarded and was not "for the culture" but actively harmed "the culture" and i've been waiting for season 2 for almost a decade now. Season 2 stuff looks good and feels like the season 2 we all wanted. Knowing a comedians bit or their mannerisms so well that you can almost predict what they would do or say in a given situation is when comedians have to pivot and grow. Like Bill Burr's whole bit is being angry and doing act outs of the people he's angry with and once you see it he loses his appeal because you can see a guy who is just performing the same party trick over and over. Harland knew Sam's whole essence and showed up dressed and acting like a guy Sam would hate and then he goofed on the MDE boys about "why are you so angry?" in a silly way. It made them all look stupid, at least in my mind as a fan. In the time since he got cancelled and season 2 I grew up and started a family and a business partially at Sam's recommendation. He didn't grow up alongside his peers and millennial audience and he doesn't quite resonate with zoomers who have no touchstone to this kind of hyper media singularity of TV and early internet that millennials get because we grew up on tv instead of ipads. MDE needs intelligent people to write essays about how it's similar to french extremism films and really dig down into all of it and disseminate for people who aren't terminally online. It's unfortunate that MDE fans never really showed up the way they needed to. They did show up but they were waiting for orders from Sam and he told everyone to stand down years ago.
