I have medicaid and just stayed a month in the hospital and had a couple brain surgeries and countless tests run on me and my grand total was $0.

Because it's not free, even in Scandi-nations, we pay 36-50% tax out our salary for this and other free things like education. Both are pretty mediocre if you compare to the best hospitals or schools in the western world. We also get the pleasure of paying another 25% "Value Added Tax" on everything we buy from what's left of our paycheck, and in the last 20-30 years we have also paid 20% environment and CO2 tax on every litre of petrol or diesel... and for the past 5-6 years or so, we, in southern Norway, got the dubious pleasure of having a 20 to 100-fold increase of our price per kilowatt-hour, in order to be "solidaric" with the poor Germans, who seemed to have disabled their nuclear power generation due to a triggering tsunami in Japan, and pissing off the Russians and their cheap LNG almost at the same time. No, the basic healthcare system in the Netherlands will send people to Switzerland if thats the only place where care can be given.
A lot of specific cancer treatments are only available in switzerland and social healthcare will pay for it.
I have no problem with that, personally. I am okay with a collective burden if it helps people.

What i am not okay with, and my major gripe with social healthcare - as i said in my previous post - is the fact there is no requirement to stay healthy. Or even pay more if you chose to live unhealthy.

I will not forbid people to make unhealthy choices for themselves. If you want to smoke, by all means, its your life and your choice. But i would consider it fair that smokers have to pay an extra fee.

I also would ban all foreigners to have access to this system. It should favour Dutch people, and Dutch people only. If your parents and grandparents did not financially support this system, you have no rights to its fruits.

Fuck this faggot-ass country. All my mother ever did was work and pay into this fucking bullshit system. And she no longer has healthcare. Why? Because it literally got so expensive with all the co-pays and deductibles that she just concluded that it's not worth it.

Btw, I'm not suggesting that healthcare in the US be "free." As we all know, there's no such thing; someone's paying for it in the end. Taxes and such. But if nothing else medical care just needs to be much, much cheaper. Because this is ridiculous. Can't we all at least agree on that?
