I noticed this a lot when looking at these articles, they say the battle has "begun" as soon as the frontline is anywhere near the cities and towns regardless of wherever it is being attacked by soldiers or not. If you were to apply this to other battles and time periods you could say Austria during WW1 fought the "battle of Belgrade" for over a year.
