you do realise that vassal states like Japan have to comply with what the US elite demands:
>"you dont make your own payment processors and we will buy your cars"
>why do you think china has their own GPS nav system while Japan doesn't?

>THIS VERY THING

Online payments didn't exist when laws were written. People payed in cash in person and then also with checks and money orders. Steam could choose to accept accept checks, money orders and Western Union, but their customers don't want that. It's basically the customers demanding the quick credit card payment options and they choose Visa and MasterCard like they do Coke and Pepsi.

The Visa + Mastercard duopoly is the USA's wish because those data centres are basically NSA data centres. Every since transaction is tracked by the NSA. You think they'd allow a truely separate alternative that they didnt have 100% visibility of? lol. lmao even.

That would be because making laws and following through on them are two very different things here. Ever head the story of Elusive Joe? The reason he's elusive is that nobody gives enough of a fuck to try and catch him. Same with this censorship - it does exist on paper, but you have to really go out of your way to get noticed. Or be really stupid and do shit like posting swastikas on a public, moderated channel, which would get you in trouble almost anywhere. Everything else is fair game with minimal precautions/workarounds.

Other than cryptocurrency what's the alternative? I guess creators could use some cash app variation for their country but that requires more effort when confirming customer purchases by talking to them and organizing the trade. Probably only works domestically rather than internationally too which prevents a lot of transactions.

You say that like they're the only ones, but Europe is in the same boat. Why do you think the EU and ECB is embracing the idea of "stablecoins" and "CBDCs" - because that will loosen the dependence on US payment companies.

Ultimately, it's not that difficult for Europe to have its own payment infrastructure that doesn't suck. The problem is that the corporate lobby of the duopoly of Visa and Mastercard is strong. Then there's the dinosaur banks, the to be honest with you, they'd love to actually have some of the level of features that you see with "neobanks" like N26 or Revolut but they just can't deliver.

The best and more realistic option for Europe is that they encourage younger people (with expertise in finance and software) to go start banks, with the blessing of the government.

I remember 20+ years ago, one of the guys who was pretty high up in a major bank in Ireland was saying they needed to rebuild the internal infrastructure to get it all digitised and "online" but some dumb boomers on the board didn't want to. They liked being able to rent seek with fees via the paper methods, and were one of those people that felt entitled be able to call people and so on. It set the bank back many many years. 7 years ago they re-hired him, but the place was infested with Pajeets and "management consultants" that meant it was impossible for him to actually do anything. That's why it would be beneficial for the ECB/EU to just cut some of the red tape and let some competition and new blood into the market, otherwise we'll just continue to fall behind.

Reluctantly. Take cash out all the time. They'll know you took it out but at least they won't immediately know what it's for. And when the bank inevitably runs once the dollar implodes it won't matter. Some (((banks))) won't allow large withdrawals without a """"valid"""" reason so it's something that need to be a habit early

if you want cash you can use western union. you can install they app and that lets you use your debit card to fund your western union account which you can then withdraw or collect from a western union branch. maybe USA has limits on how much WU lets you collect, idk. but that is a way to get cash without your bank seeing a cash withdrawal.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Companies like Klarna use the existing payment rails. They are a layer on top, not a separate layer. There's always at least one of you in these threads who think because they're branded as seperate payment options to you on a checkout that it must be a separate channel, it's not.

It's like saying "ShopPay" via Shopify is its own thing, when they just use Stripe. Who, you guessed it, rely on Visa and Mastercard. Takes a few minutes to check.

Look, I get it, you're an NPC who wants to feel proud, "Europe strong, fuck orange man, fuck Putler" and all of that. Certain things, like not having as much hydro carbons as the US or Russia, we can excuse. We can say we're unlucky with where we spawned that it's more difficult to get things like energy independence. But things like payment rails? It's effectively updating a ledger electronically with some humans in the loop (to catch abuse and provide customer service). That's it. The fact we haven't done this in an independent way for 30+ years is embarrassing and you should feel embarassed.

I know in cases like Mastercard, they were actually started by people who worked in banking and saw that banks were utterly useless in providing a decent settlement layer (where you just keep track of IOUs between each bank properly) and saw opportunities in the market. What's the excuse for Europe not having done the same? There is none. We're fixated on bragging about how many days off we get (while wondering why the wages suck), being taxed to the hilt. And for what? So we can import more niggers? It's not sustainable.
