>>510617307You have no idea what you're talking about. Companies like Klarna use the existing payment rails. They are a layer on top, not a separate layer. There's always at least one of you in these threads who think because they're branded as seperate payment options to you on a checkout that it must be a separate channel, it's not.
It's like saying "ShopPay" via Shopify is its own thing, when they just use Stripe. Who, you guessed it, rely on Visa and Mastercard. Takes a few minutes to check.
Look, I get it, you're an NPC who wants to feel proud, "Europe strong, fuck orange man, fuck Putler" and all of that. Certain things, like not having as much hydro carbons as the US or Russia, we can excuse. We can say we're unlucky with where we spawned that it's more difficult to get things like energy independence. But things like payment rails? It's effectively updating a ledger electronically with some humans in the loop (to catch abuse and provide customer service). That's it. The fact we haven't done this in an independent way for 30+ years is embarrassing and you should feel embarassed.
I know in cases like Mastercard, they were actually started by people who worked in banking and saw that banks were utterly useless in providing a decent settlement layer (where you just keep track of IOUs between each bank properly) and saw opportunities in the market. What's the excuse for Europe not having done the same? There is none. We're fixated on bragging about how many days off we get (while wondering why the wages suck), being taxed to the hilt. And for what? So we can import more niggers? It's not sustainable.
