Former alcoholics of /pol/, how did you quit drinking? Politically speaking.

I quit after I blacked out during /a/’s annual Sora No Woto Stream in January. One and a half bottles of straight calvados was a persuasive argument that maybe if i cannot control my drinking once I start the simple option is to not pick up the bottle in the first place. Been sober since. I might drink again one day but I don’t know. Probably not. Given that drinking is taxed to shit one way or another I don’t want to give more money to the government and jews.

Woke up after a long night of alone drinking, realized i have a problem. Couldnt stop it for some months after, felt like absolute shit because of it which increased my rate of drinking. Went on a one week bike trip with a friend, he didnt know about it. One evening we got lost and arrived very late at our stay, there was no way i could get a drink at this time and place, got irrational about it, my friend noticed it but didnt bring it up. A couple of days after the vacation he asked me about the evening, somehow i was able to open up. He didnt judge me, offered his help and i went to a selfhelp group in my area. It didnt end there but this was the beginning of it. The urge to drink will never leave you though, it will only get weaker slowly.

I drank very heavily through most of my 20s. I would basically drink cheap whisky until I passed out every night. Around 30 I kinda just naturally grew out of it. I still drink a beer every evening but I haven’t been drunk in years and the thought sounds unappealing.
Cigarettes were way more brutal to quit, for me at least.

Shit makes you fat and ill. Who needs more reasons than this?
