I know this is a joke but a lot of people's minds - maybe even most people's minds - work exactly like this.

They think to themselves that a person taking accountability for their past actions is a good thing and they are treated better than if they denied until the end. That's like the common wisdom.

In actual fact most people are extremely prejudiced against anyone who has ever admitted fault or taken accountability for anything, no matter how small, and no penalty is ever enough for them.

So whether it's jews or pokimane - if they hear someone claim they NEVER did ANYTHING wrong, they kind of believe that to some extent, or they hold it as open to possibility. This really is how most people's brains treat justice - and of course like most things the people in high and responsible places are much worse at it than the general public.
