I am a teacher at a high school. These are some examples of a spelling test we just did for a remedial summer school English class. These are kids who failed Junior English (11th grade, 16-17 years old) and had to retake it over the summer, these are the type of kids who are going to be forced through graduation this year because it would make the system look bad to fail too many kids. Of course not all the kids are this bad, but I'd say the average is much closer to this quality than the few students who can spell with near perfection - and they will all graduate just the same.

Yes, we have phrases like media consumer/producer as part of the curriculum because "content creator" is a legitimate pathway at this school.

When I was in elementary school (in the late 80s/early 90s) my school had what was known as "creative spelling". It meant that as long as the word was spelled somewhat correct, it was fine. My school was probably around 55-660% none white. I have a LOT of trouble writing with pen/pencil now, its very difficult to just write out simple words. the errors I see in OP’s are heavily influenced by a lack of phonetic recognition, meaning if they are not ESL or on some type of RSP support, their elementary school teachers fucked them over. I suppose something to remind yourself is that these children in your OP will NEVER work cerebral jobs at any point in their lives. This would sound scarier and a little less retarded if every ESL spoke English the same way, but they don’t. As such, I’m not too worried, and in fact I’d be more worried about my own language dying out, if I were someone like, say, a Finn.

Why does he say "and it would not be wonderful" instead of "and would it not be wonderful". How did grammar change so much that the latter is now normal but the former isn't?

The sentence seems to imply the exact opposite of it being likely to see a dinosaur. It "would not be wonderful" does that mean it's not likely happening? Apparently not but it sure seems like it does versus "and would it not be wonderful to see a dinosaur".

But yeah, that's the mix up here that everyone seems to ignore, that one phrase. I'm right aren't I? You all see what I'm talking about?

different meaning of wonderful. he's saying that it wouldn't be thought strange....or 'it would not be surprising', not 'it would be awesome...'
