I am a teacher at a high school. These are some examples of a spelling test we just did for a remedial summer school English class. These are kids who failed Junior English (11th grade, 16-17 years old) and had to retake it over the summer, these are the type of kids who are going to be forced through graduation this year because it would make the system look bad to fail too many kids. Of course not all the kids are this bad, but I'd say the average is much closer to this quality than the few students who can spell with near perfection - and they will all graduate just the same.
Yes, we have phrases like media consumer/producer as part of the curriculum because "content creator" is a legitimate pathway at this school.
How do we repair the damage that was done to kids during COVID and the fact both the kids and their parents just do not give a shit?
