Older people are more influenced by communism and revolutionary ideals so they looked up to French revolution.

Well for one, Italy was under Spanish rule for a long time. Spanish and Italian are also mutually intelligible languages, they can converse with each other with relatively little difficulty and read each others texts effortlessly. Nobody can understand your langue de frogue.

They also share a lot of their culture and general attitude towards life (namely indolence and pleasure seeking degeneracy), while France seems to align closer to their Germanic neighbors in the way they value productivity.
