Multi-faceted problem.

Usually people who weren't pushed at all, and just allowed to coast through life. Socially a misfit, so they never felt pressure to at least match peers achievements. Life hits different as a teen when everyone has girlfriends and a job and college prospects and you dont. The shame will drive you to do it.

Generally physically less attractive and introverted. More risk averse. Aren't willing to risk the 'pain' of developing relationships and "woo'ing" women. Constant seeking of comfort. However comfort causes them to rot, and they grow weaker and softer every year, making it harder and harder to do the things they need to do to get out of it.

Depression follows. Their life becomes watching a screen, eating, sometimes showering, going to the bathroom, and sleeping. Low physical activity makes them grow weaker, more tired, more sluggish. Then they become completely trapped, weak, retarded, entertained, and worst of all, comfortable. They never grow but seek endless hobbies and entertainment that allow them to carry on the delusion of "growth".

I knew a dude from school who continuously brain-rotted into adulthood playing Minecraft and The Sims and watching Lord of the Rings over and over again. We would hang out, and he would rarely initiate conversation. I'd try to leave breadcrumbs in things I'd tell him, to talk about goals - the inevitable 50 years of future (of course we could die any day too). He started working much sooner than I thought he would as a clerk part time, opening up, being vulnerable in the world (he had often been bullied at school), and writing and illustrating comic books.
This is what life is now for many, who would otherwise have simple labor to do with others in a local community. Best it's gonna be, nothing to complain about, easiest to reach out once a year and call at least one dude you know. If you post on here you're not too busy.

I am 28 in in this position, but not by choice.
My parents raised me to be their pet. I wasn't allowed to do sports, I wasn't allowed music (I literally was in tears at ten because I so desperately wanted to learn the piano), In highschool I wasn't allowed to have a job, I wasn't allowed to do sports (though i did sneak off to wrestling practice behind my parents back and either walk the long 6 miles home or get a ride everyday).

I don't want to be a person who blames my parents for my failures in life, but they did some serious damage to me.

At 18 I graduated highschool, no license, no job, no cellphone ect.

Immediatley after graudation I worked 70 hours a week at a summercamp as a landscaper/lifegaurd which provided room and board, and that summer I wanted to go to emt school. But I had no license, no ride, no cellphone, and my parents refused to file my fasfa.

At 19 I had a near full ride to a decent state school, but again my parents witheld their information on my fasfa and I didn't qualify for an independancy overide.

Then I tried to join the army at 20 and I herniated 2 discs in my back which put me in chronic pain for 2 years.

Lied at meps and kept on trying to join the military until 23.

Start college at 24 on academic probation. Start colllege for real at 25.

2 years later I am a college junior. I lie about my age and have sex with 18-22 year olds.

My life is pathetic and I think of murder suiciding my parents often. I am fucked.

Nah, I nearly 40 with ADHD too (but not a failure like that bloke) and recently worked out the real reason why I'm "incel", and it's problem called rejection sensitive dysphoria, which is common to ADHD-PI type people.

So it's not so much about about being anxious of rejection or feeling shitty after being rejected, but actually that when experiencing "rejection" in the past, the feelings were intense and horrible. So like, instead of a gut punch, it was car crash. Not pain, but an injury. And so for me at least, it's the fear of that emotional state that is avoided.

And you're going to think that sounds like copium, but it first hit me at about 9yo and just with a girl friend (I wasn't even thinking about dating etc). And then schools and something similar happened at 10yo. Moved schools again, and "kept my distance" I guess you could say. Then 2 years later I started high school at a different place all together, and never even tried. (Plus there was lots to do like N64, MtG, Lan parties, etc. all girl free activities lol). So basically, child-me took the safe/easy route and gave up before the race had even started, and I've just been playing along with that decision ever since.

Also if you read about RSV you will see that rejection isn't just about dating, but also friendships, work, etc. Another factor of it is "rage" that happens in the moment too. So for example, I have felt disrespected many times at work, and that is a trigger because it's a rejection of my efforts/ideas/personality/etc. So sometimes the rage manifests as silent treatment, or "malicious compliance" sort of actions, or even quitting on the spot, which I've done twice in my career. Another outlet is daydreaming about all the ways I could get revenge or fuck their shit up.

I live with a small dog in a medium house I inherited. My dad made me get a p/t evening job when I was in high school. Had girlfriends, was permitted use of a modest compact car (later a boogie van), and smoked weed, drank, and went to parties. It was the nineties.

Back in ~'02 Dad and I borrowed the neighbours' old pickup truck to retrieve an heirloom piano from the early twentieth century from my Mom's mum place. I still have it and sporadically play it, but I'm mostly too drunk to even feed myself these days.

Been without grid power and gas since may, but thankfully I have a modest solar setup and a camp stove on the deck.

I can hammer-out chords and entertain an audience with my singing (primarily a guitar player) and wouldn't mind taking-on a student. After graduating from high school my first bigboy job was teaching guitar down at the music store.

As you can well imagine, my place is a big mess! Today I actually mustered-up the wherewithal to do a bit of long neglected cleaning... then to reward myself I went and got some smokes, beer, and cheap liquor to mix with coffee.

You hit the nail on the head with everything you wrote. You forgot to mention that the sedentary lifestyle, bad diet usually ends up giving NEETs some kind of chronic condition/disease which makes getting out even harder than it already is. Also as a 10 year long NEET who is almost 30, i can say the entertainment thing gets old after a while, you grow out of gaming, movies, etc and want a woman/family/career and do something with your life but it just becomes so difficult that you can't. It simply is too little too late at that point. You have crossed the point of no return. Now i am forced to be a NEET, maybe if i get lucky i can get a warehouse job but what's the point of that? it's over. I also think single mothers and absent fathers are a huge problem contributing to this epidemic. 90% of the time a present and strong father will never allow his son to get to such a point in life where they are completely screwed. Only women/mothers allow it, they coddle their sons even as adults and don't force them to step outside their comfort zone.

Also i think there's not much difference between a NEET getting NEETbux and a lowly minimum wagecuck working a dead end job. It's 50/50 on whether you should transition to the lowly job if you're a NEET, for one the money you get isn't going to change your circumstances much, NEETs can easily get close to 1k a month and wagecucks get a bit more than that after tax. The real incentive to wage is actually working a proper job/career where you earn more and can climb up and earn even more down the line. However, one incentive to get a lowly wage job is that you can potentially find a gf as after school/college, finding a girl through work is realistically the only place left since you most likely aren't good looking enough to get girls on dating apps or IRL anywhere else and we all know tons of people meet each other through work. When you are around women 40 hours a week for months you make connections. Also working a shitty job can help improve social skills aswell even if it's a shit job so i guess working a shit job might be good for the NEET. But still normally NEETs aren't going to be enticed to make the move, it has to be worthwhile aka a proper job/career which they will never get after so many years as a NEET so they don't bother. Give NEETs a chance to get a proper career going and maybe we will do it. I can't go back to university at almost 30 years of age for another 5 years.

I don't have the energy to go into a lot of detail so the general gist of it is this: Yes we were in an open relationship, no that doesn't mean you can't cheat on someone when you're in an open relationship. If you are having sex regularly with someone and never mention it until they get you pregnant, that is definitely a betrayal of trust even if you've both agreed that she can have as many partners as she feels she needs to be comfortable.

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that people who scoff at blaming parents are just boom niggers who don't want to consider that their absentee parenting hamstrung their kids. My mother didn't give a fuck about our family (or at least me) and would regularly just feed us freezer bag slop. Dad was a trucker who had to work mega hours to keep the lights on and fund mom's chainsmoking and as a result enjoyed a trucker diet on top of it. The two of those combined turned me into a fat kid, as in I literally do not recall being skinny. Sure I can, and have, lost weight and put on muscle now. Got more work to do on that end but I'm walking the path. But what am I supposed to do about having been the fat kid for my whole school career along with all the misery that entailed? Shake my own hand so vigorously I vibrate back in time to my birth so I can tell 7 year old me to grab them bootstraps? Just forget about women treating me like I was covered in shit and on fire for my entire youth?
